They do lock servers to character creation when they hit certain thresholds. It sounds like your server may be active, but not hitting those thresholds. They can't lock everything down.

Naw, I read it. And your replies. Seems more like you're angry about streamers and their watchers playing the game since you implied people were being:
SE locks worlds for new characters when they are fully congested. 5 min login ques are nothing.
How do you define what is a major server?
Assuming Lucky Bancho's April census is fairly accurate, 7 out of the top 12 worlds for active population over level 60 are all Crystal. Excalibur is down at #23.
I don't think locking the "major servers" is going to do you much good when you're not a major server by population, nor are most of the other servers in your data center.
Besides, SE already locks worlds to character creation based on current congestion. That status gets updated fairly frequently during prime time, less often during off peak hours. On Sunday, locks were being updated every 10 minutes from what I could see as my Aether friends were venting their frustration in Discord.
Five minutes is nothing for a popular MMO. You learn to log in, get your character in queue then step away to get a drink, use the bathroom etc. while your character slowly makes its way to the top of the list. It's a joke in my FC about how most of us tend to select our character for log in then walk away while we're stuck on queue. My wait has been about max 5 minutes. However, those that NORMALLY play on Cactuar before a big streamer started playing on there most likely had no wait time at all. Now. I hear the log in is around 2k wait. On top of that, people that were playing on that server legit at the time were "Randomly" kicked off the server, only to be met with the queue of 2k upon trying to log back in.
If Cactuar normally has no wait time, it's a darn lucky world. I can't remember the last time I did not have a wait time to log in between 7am and 11pm Pacific.
I'd agree that the current situation on Aether worlds is pretty messy (I know a few players with mains on Aether worlds that had to settle for playing their Crystal alts on Sunday) but we don't know the long term impact. Outside of your world visit breaking down on Sunday, it sounds like even with the streamer who doesn't need to be named Aether is no worse off now than Crystal has been most of the expansion.

As the title says. Please lock the creation on large pop servers. Currently I see that Excalibur is allowing creation along with Behemoth and such. Which are, as i'm told and believe, larger pop servers since I already have had a queue time when logging in since having to transfer from Malboro when you put that on Crystal. But with the influx of players because of certain streamers, and more streamers starting to play (because it's the hip cool thing to do for views atm). Please lock these servers. Those of us who HAVE been playing and not just picking it up following whatever streamer these people watch shouldn't have to be punished in a queue because it's now a fad to play. I love that the game is getting more of a playerbase. But i'm gonna be honest. It's gonna drive me away if I can't even get on my server TO play because of this.Poorly veiled Asmon and WoW player hate topic. Honestly, if they drive you a way they'd be making the whole community a favor. We don't need haters and toxic players. My wait has been about max 5 minutes. Also in case you don't know, Square Enix added a button to your logging screen that allows you to queue for the first world that has space. You generally don't have to wait more than 15 seconds thanks to it.

They do lock the servers when they're full. If people can still make characters they aren't that's pretty simple. Issue really is making them in prime time even when a server isn't locked to new characters. It does take a bit of trying at low peak hours many times and perhaps they should be addressed to allow more freedom for creation during peak hours.
I suspect we'll see more servers added prior to EW before the release of the xpac especially in North America.
Currently no worlds are locked in North America. They are all Standard or Preferred.

It's not a button per se, it's a submenu option. Just need to pull up the submenu for your character on the selection screen (right click with a mouse, don't know what a controller user needs to press).
Probably would help to stress that you don't get to select the world. You'll be placed on a random world in your data center. Once you're in-game, you can use world visit to get to a specific world.
I see it now. This will help significantly for Endwalker, so thank you both.
