I know right its funny that mentors are publicly admitting they dont want to MENTOR XD
Honestly I wish they could make mentor a more hand picked system where they choose specific people who want to mentor, are not entitled to rewards and more importantly knowing how to communicate cuz the vast majority of gamers are really terrible at communication and interpersonal skills which leads to their complaints of "omg I am being helpful but they are just not listening to me" having no idea what they said is incredibly offensive, insulting, condescending or commanding.
Being a mentor does not make you a person worth listening to, you need to actually prove that to the person who are trying to help, and sadly vast majority of mentors fail that the moment they start typing.
The tryhard elitist is the person who is going to finish their 5 pieces on this created to be beaten """"challenge"""" and then complaint that the baby, slower or less dexterous person are a problem which not only is toxic but indirectly implies that doing this basic created to be beaten task faster is an """achievement""" of """great skill""" which helps to falsely boost the elitist's self worth as that is their true motive, if challenge was truly their desire they would relish in the chance to do more than the rest.
The healthy person on the other hand will either let people finish their part or assist them for their self worth does not depend on solving basic puzzles created to be beaten, aka as a video game.
I mentor because I want a global chat channel, and to make people upset when you tell them that they need to work on their fundamentals, instead of trying to mentor when they can't play their job. Oh, and to make rpers mad.
Honestly with all of this, I would just settle for a popup saying something along the lines of "The duty or duties you have entered the queue for are of a much higher level of difficulty than those you have completed before, it is recommended that you use the Party Finder to form a group to challenge this duty."
In the last 2 days, I've gotten 4 extremes, and of those, only one party cleared: a party with a non-sprout and 3 mentors in Rathalos EX. I hard carried one of the parties through ~80% of Ramuh EX, and the other two groups, both Ifrit EX, I left because people were ignoring mechanics explanations, and ignoring me when I advised them on their major mistakes on their job.
Not exactly- you get actual quests to do extremes much like other content, and it's in PF so while you're going to assume it's hard you'll also assume it's doable with a pug.
Especially if you come from other games- WoW for example has normal, heroic, mythic dungeons- but all three of them are cakewalks, M doesn't really have any challenge until you get to a certain +. FFXIV has normal, hard, extreme, savage, ultimate- it's easy to assume ult's gonna be super hard and savage will prob require a premade, but EX being tricky but doable seems reasonable.
I did a Ramuh EX after I'd gotten through ARR and was starting HW, still very new- it was a big challenge, think we got it around the 10 min remaining point. That said- was one of the best prog raiding experiences I've had in years, everyone was trying to learn it, no negativity, 0 people left- so I'm not sure I'm against it staying in DF since that positive experience with Ramuh EX kinda washed away years of miserable LFR and normal raid pugs in WoW.
I've done a few EX/minstrel ballads now in PF, been fun. I think if someone hates pugging hard content, they're going to find a group instead anyway.
Ironically enough, getting EX primals with randoms from Mentor Roulette is the very reason why I started to appreciate doing Main Scenario Roulette more, despite both Castrum and Praetorium having those unskippable cutscenes. Heck, I would prefer getting those two said long dungeons in Mentor Roulette than getting ANY EX Primal. At the end of the day, you either clear it or you don't. People may not always take your advice when you give it to them in higher-end content. It may get to the point where people might not even reach or get past the add phases in Extreme trials via Duty Finder.

as someone mentioned before there might be a issue, that those ARR EXs are under quest, when in HW they are gated behind somehow i think person you need to talk to, but i cant remember really, but in SB it works i hope . or if anything BLU is having under Blue Magic Spellbook option to recruit players so maybe that way . i do mentor because i love running things with randoms and trying cooperate. but extremes ehhhh . tho i got once Zurvan EX with that and i was like hmmm where to start ... i think it didnt go well but it happens
Some here may enjoy this in a cathartic way; https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1076078225?t=07h44m36s
A mentor should imo be there to teach some skills and impart some knowledge to newer players. Maybe help with the queue times of older normal content. Extreme content is something you normally do prepared. Its not something you jump in and just do. It should not be the job of mentors to guide people through such content. These fights should be done when people have the basic knowledge (the one a mentor should be able to teach)....
Also there is a huge amount of ex content...I really hope you dont think that being a mentor means that they have to remember each and every one of those fights down to a single mechanic...
If you really would start imposing some near impossible measurements for mentors than you wont be getting many of them. So most newer players will never get any kind of help (if they even want that).
