Also something you and ralph are missing is that it's not that players don't improve it's that they're already gone after having failed one extreme and have moved on.
The reason you're getting put into an extreme from mentor roulette is because of someone new. There's a new kid on the block now so the circle of suffering anews.
And it's those people who either are facepullers or simply aren't ready for extreme.

I hope I didn't misunderstand your post when I wrote this reply. What I personally meant by people not improving appropriately is related to the fight itself. Within the 1 hour allotted to the trial, you still see the same mistakes over and over. Examples would be like people hugging the rocks in Garuda even after being told to stay away from them, people not going to the designated spot when they get marked in Ramuh, etc.

    Haha, no you didn't.

My post takes what you just said : "What I personally meant by people not improving appropriately is related to the fight itself. Within the 1 hour allotted to the trial, you still see the same mistakes over and over."
and assumes that is the default and because the run ends up like that they don't come back to it until much later on hopefully with more experience.

My previous post assumes you were referencing that players didn't improve over time after they left the failed extreme. I usually don't assume people are thinking about such extreme absolutes but these forums.

Without the reward in the end I would not be doing mentor roulette. It is soulcrushing. I am happy when I get alex raids because they are a faceroll compared to ramuh ex. People pull instantly over and over again, stand in his cleave, stand in the water, dont dps the adds, tanks dont take orbs, people tethered just run around until their hp runs out, healers dont heal and so on and so forth. In titan ex, people dont stand under his foot for the pushback or dont use surecast/arms length, they fall off, they dont dodge, they dont dps the jails and so on and so forth. Shiva ex : tanks dont listen to the third time you tell them to stand behind her when she takes out the bow.....

It is just hell 50% of the time. The other 50% can be fun, when they actually listen and actually try and learn.

Just delete mentor system altogether imo. 99% of mentors just want a fancy icon next to their names and do in fact not mentor players.

I hear you. I had some fun and memorable moments in Mentor Roulette, getting people through some Extreme trials. But that was only possible because people listened and did their best to clear.

I think it's sad that mentors have the reputation that they do, whether this was the fruit of people being overly negative or because of fake mentors who are just after the crown. Before I became a mentor, I had heard the tales of those nasty creatures known as mentors. So when I decided to get the mount, the first thing I did after becoming a mentor was hiding the crown. I didn't want to be associated with mentors in the open world. I was biased and influenced by what others said and what I kept hearing.

However, I witnessed something that made me rethink the whole crown icon thing. Some time ago, there was a new player in Gridania, where I was just standing like a statue, and the person asked in the say channel if there were any mentors around to answer a question that they had. Another person (and maybe even more) and myself too jumped in to help them. But this made me think. Having the icon to facilitate spotting mentors is a good idea, but it really sucks that the person needing help might come across a fake mentor or might not know that a mentor willing and happy to help was nearby but said mentor didn't have their icon on just like me and most likely for the same reason.

I don't necessarily think the mentor system is bad, it can certainly be useful, but it's not working the way it was intended because of the way people abused it. This said, I'm not sure if removing the system altogether is the answer. I know it's possible to shout in any city and people will answer your questions, but there might be things that the regular player wouldn't know and a mentor would.

Yup I was super proud when I dragged a bunch of newbies through titan ex to a clear. But the clears in extremes are few. More often than not it is not worth the time it takes (as in the penalty is shorter). What should really be removed though is 24man raids and msq. You dont need mentors for that.

The worst to get in mentor roulette is ramuh ex, closely followed by rathalos ex.

If you can't even do that, then you shouldn't have a Mentor Crown in the first place.
