(Contained is my opinion)
While i understand the desire. I've never agreed that having a Character Bio/history printed out is roleplay.
Good rolelay is not declaring your character's past, or accomplishments like a billboard. Or asif its written on your forehead.
Just like good roleplay is not /emoting your action and deciding another response to your action.
Roleplay is being active in your role. When your roleplaying and you meet a stranger, that person is still a stranger. They shouldn't know about you. Meeting, talking and interacting in your role with that person in theirs is the real essense of roleplaying.
A ways back when RP was more common place i Kept nots on index cards of things i learned about someone, to reference later, to glance at between (or during) meetings and better decide how my character would, could or should react.
The trend that has turned me a bit away from roleplay over time is generally 2 things.
1: People whom belive to roleplay, i need to know their characters life history, family history and or life time exploits the first time in the first minutes
2: People who emote, say or somehow decide my own character's reaction to their personal story.
Smexy Example: /emote Don Juan takes you in his arms, sqeezes you tightly placing a lustfilled kiss as you close your eyes and fall acceptingly into his loving embrace.
It may be bad spur of the moment dime store novel writing there. But if you don't understand why that is bad form roleplay
(I made it easy) Then I would politely decline to roleplay with you. (i've seen this type of thing far too much nowadays)
This post may sound horribly negative and i don't really mean it as such. I fully applaude peoples interest and enjoyment of roleplay. I'd love to see more of it more often. But in my opinion these 2 things tend to ruin it every time.
TL;DR :
Point is, If i, as the second participant in OUR roleplaying session already know your History, and you decide my response to your actions in your own emotes, then there is really no point in 1: me being there 2: roleplaying through questions, inquiries and actions that may bring about a back and forth about how your feel, think and act based on your backstory is meaningless because I already know your backstory!!! RP is an interation. Not auto-biography for me to read through!
But keep RP'ing folks
Sorry for the rant....must be tired and cranky![]()
