FFXIV's weird prostitution hangup

An exposed midriff makes you "gag", but erping doesn't? lol I think the word cringe is overused nowadays, but I can't think of a better word for how I feel about erp.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think erp has no place in this game. But whatever, as long as I don't see it, I don't care. If people are going to advertise an rp venue, they should state whether it's nsfw or not. I don't rp, but I do like to visit cafes and chat sometimes. I really don't like getting flirting tells because it's really awkward and makes me not want to be there.

It is kind of amazing how prevalent this sort of thing is on Crystal, particularly Balmung and Mateus.

I mostly play solo but in a bout of loneliness I thought to give FCs a try in hopes of finding a community. What I ended up finding in a short time, trying out like 3 FCs that were actively recruiting, was that each of them had some ERP element/players involved in them, despite not recruiting as specifically RP guilds. Some of them were involved in some kind of night club/venue community that spanned several servers where players either act as bartenders, bouncers, or ERP escorts. Again, these were FCs who were either recruiting in shout or on forums/reddit and never said this was their focus; and I don't think it was their focus, I got the sense this was just second nature to a lot of Crystal players. Their discord servers tended to have NSFW channels for sharing adult content too.

I ended up going to Balmung when I rejoined the game, and later Mateus because the unofficial RP servers seemed really alive and busy. It's just busy with people I mostly wouldn't want to interact with. If I could transfer my house with me I'd get off this data center in a heartbeat. I would really hope it's not as prevalent on other data centers. I've never seen such open thirst from an MMO community.

An ERP event being advertised as a normal RP event makes no sense first of all. You will get a bunch of people who don't want to participate in your event and the whole thing will be ruined so you are basically wasting your time.

What's normal RP on Balmung. You have to define that if you want to proceed. If ERPs is more common than RP then ERPs is by default the normal. In any case, ERPs gain nothing from having people like the OP in their events. I wouldn't want them in my bar if I ever decide to organise an event. So it makes little to no sense to me that people won't try to actively prevent such type of players crashing their parties unless that type of players are almost non-existent, meaning they are too few to even bother. If you are on a server where ERP is prevalent, asking the whole community to change for you so that you can do the RP you like is a bit too much. Do the opposite or move away.

In the original post, the word "normal" was never mentioned btw. This was later added in his following post. And even after reading the second post, I am still doubting that they are victims. A victim can be a person who has been tricked or duped. And if ERP is the normal thing in Balmung then they were just being ignorant of the environment that surrounds them.

I just googled it and found that Balmung is an unofficial RP server who was the first NA server to fully rebuild New Nest, surpassing the hardcore players on Gilgamesh. But I am now reading 4-year-old comments on reddit about ERP in public chat on Balmung and some 2-year-old article about player-maintained brothels, so what we consider normal RP definitely doesn't apply there if everything is the same. I'd guess that being erotic with their role-playing is pretty much their normal. So my point that OP is not a victim still stands.

How would that Bartender know unless they ask? Do you think they can read minds? I don't understand why you turning her down is a problem? More women are playing games, and such men will always try to attractive them. Role play will always have this, as real life. Companionship is many peoples life goals, and role play is model after making the world real.


MMOS always had this issue. Even on non rp servers. From Ultima Online, Everquest, and now. Any game thrive on social element will have this in it. Yes, RP servers and such kicks it up a notch...but I could tell you stories about PVP games as well that men act stupid around women.
