Is attaining a house even possible in full servers?

I play on the Leviathan server since that's where my friends all were, but it has a max player count and there is always a queue time to get in.

I was interested in getting a house --not that I can afford one yet-- and discovered that not only is there limited plots, but all of them are full as far as I can tell.

Will it ever be possible for me to obtain a house, and why was the plot system even made instead of having infinite housing areas?

Short answer: Yes it is possible
Is there going to be a tough competition? Also yes.

why was the plot system even made instead of having infinite housing areas?
let me just in my timemachine to 2014 and ask the development team. Brb

    Tips for camping:

-Be courteous. If you win a plot, lose a plot, or are joined by another camper please remember not to act cruel or entitled. The other players deserve the same chance you do

-Check city aetherytes at the top of any hour exactly, right as the clock rolls over from --:59 to --:00, this is when demolitions go off

-from the city aetheryte plaza, choose 'Residential District Aethernet,' check the directory page for all 48 wards and sub-wards, plots for sale show a price in white text

-Goblet plots will be abandoned most frequently and camped by the fewest others, conversely, lakefront and beachfront properties are very likely to be taken by relocators

-Use the numpad (with numlock on: 0,0,0,0,4,0) or a controller to target/navigate the placard dialogue rather than the mouse, this avoids 'large mount' griefing

-Type /busy once to automatically reject all tells and trade offers while camping. Enter the command again when done to cancel.

-Conventional wisdom says that a plot will not become available until after the eighth hour of the hidden timer. So if you see a plot become vacant or know where someone relocated from, return in 8-10 hours with the goal of camping 14-16 hours, rather than camping the full 24.

-When possible, do not camp a house on a character that can relocate a different house. Make an officer-alt to camp the FC house on, do not risk your personal. Make a leader-alt to hold your FC while you camp a personal, do not risk the FC house.

+FC specific: give multiple ranks the ability to purchase land for the FC, allowing you to camp multiple plots at one time and/or to camp plots in shifts

-NA users can try Sadu's Housing Alerts discord. This community gives you an opportunity to crowdsource your ward checks with other campers and help determine the time that a plot opened. They also have an informative FAQ.

Possible? Yes. Unlikely? Also yes. It's like that even on a lot of small/medium servers, let alone ones that are packed to the brim. Good luck!

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

because, back when FFXIV entered its 2.0 state (ARR with Yoshi-P), it was quite expensive to get even a small and it was a rather rare thing to obtain. There wasn't enough people earning millions of gil, or could save up that amount.

Jump forward a few years and the changes piled up. More wards, Personal Housing option, Cost reduction, The large player-boom when Stormblood launched. As a result of -all- of these, players began to be able to now only buy houses, but purchase multiple plots on one character. That quickly became a problem and as the last by-product, we got given the Placards Hidden Timer system. Something that I feel the entire playerbase hates with a passion.

We all currently have to deal / suffer with the actions players made in the past and our constant bickering and knife-wielding towards other players for having what we don't.. Isn't really winning SEs trust back.

But why the wards over infinite housing? Two main reasons. 1. Yoshi-P (and other developers at SE) want a Neighborhood-esque feeling for Housing. 2. Infinite housing (with the system the way it is) is near-impossible. It would need to be through the Apartment system, rather than the ward system. Actual physical land in a virtual world will add up if everyone has it.

Not impossible at all. There is a certain other MMO out there with a ward system, that automatically adds new wards when the existing are 80% full.

Now, it might be impossible for SE because of a microcode update intel issued 5 years ago that fundamentally affected some 1.0 legacy code that will make all mounts in the game stop working if SE makes a needed change to allow automatic addition of wards at the same time as a certain number of trout swim upstream.

When I say "near impossible" I mean it in the sense of "It is near impossible to do while maintaining Square Enixs stance on the Housing as a whole". They wish to keep it a luxury and maintain the neighborhood feeling. While they are working to try and make it more accessible to everyone, it is still meant to be a "luxury" of sorts. Entirely optional in its own right, which only adds to its desirability.

With "Infinite housing" AKA Instanced Housing, everyone would indeed obtain the housing they desire. But at the same time, kill the Luxury of it. At least if they do it so everyone has a Ward House. If everyone had an Apartment, instead (Upgraded to be the same as a house, just with no physical land than you can walk up to / interact with) then we would have another issue on our hands.

There needs to keep a reason for Ward Housing to be desirable. Personally, I think the physical land is enough, but others may wish if not outright demand more questionable, perhaps even outlandish claims to maintain their stance.

Yes it is had two friends get houses on Balmung last ward release and then go to Siren and get a house there. The thing is the population is going to explode for xpac so the server queues for 6.1 release will be much bigger. High end PC and PS5 uses will have the edge and it's going to be all about log in queue number and hope for no server crashes.

Getting a prime location will be hard and not knowing how many wards will be lottery and FC only is the question too. A lot of unknowns at the moment.

My friend did it on Zodiark, and quite a few friends and FC mates has done so, even without massive camping for hours so yes it is possible on all servers... don't deny that factor.. x amount of clicks per day will take people off camping for 12 hours using third party illegal software to click for them exploiting against console users openly.
