Five years. The wardrobe feature was added in the pre-patch for the Legion expansion. (Also, WoW's not quite 20 years old yet.)

Took them a while to cobble it together, no? I always assumed the mount collection tab was a precursor to the transmog tab and that was added a fair bit before I think.

Personally I'm pretty disappointed with that response but I'm also glad someone finally asked it and that we got a clear answer. I think I'm just gonna stop collecting anything class locked and throw away anything I'm not super attached to so I can dial back the number of retainers I currently have.

Yes, and the glamour dresser has been around quite a while now, too. And I'm not trying to be snide - I'm rather saying: they've had (multiple) years now to anticipate that this could become a major problem, and now we are at that juncture, and the answer cannot be "nope, sorry, we can't."

Maybe they can't within the context of the current system, but that's when you tear down that system and build a new one. You can't continue to sell this game so heavily around paperdollism (and expect people to bolster profits by buying expensive outfits on the Mogstation) if your hardware cannot accommodate that playstyle. I mean, glamour is what FFXIV is for a lot of us.

You must be new to MMOs. Also this kind of sentence makes me chuckle. I actually hear it a lot in my line of work and I have to sit there and think 'what you want me to break the laws of time, space and physics?'

Point being is that coding games is hard, coding MMOs is harder, and very many of them are basically cobbled together with spit and glue just to make them function the way we expect them to. In FF14 there appears to be some quirk in their coding that makes database sizes a huge issue, like more so than in other games (where database size is an issue but less of one).

I'm thinking the upcoming stat squish will help with this, but I can use something they said about that as an example - they were running into like...boss health and other numbers were close to causing servers to crash.

I suspect there's a similar concern to the glamour dresser. Just expanding it by 600 slots is definitely not doable at this point.

(It's also probably less of a hard 'it's impossible' and more of a 'it would take so long and divert so many resources the covid delays would look quaint in comparison' kind of thing)

Their original item log, attempted loooong ago, I do hope they revive.... That would awesome. . .much want. If I recall correctly it was more than just items being logged but had flavor text too. Someone will have to help me on the source but I believe they said they used some of the efforts to make a few notes into lore books. Stuff like that though is why sometimes I think that maybe the architecture is very difficult to include such concepts so then 'okay fine, please calmly prepare another MMORPG while we enjoy this one'.

Technically, if they are planning to at least, leaving a few features for that new mmo would be fairly smart - since it would sweeten the enticement.

No Glamour log because of data storage but we can buy how many retainers? Unfortunately I have come to accept this is a Japanese MMO and until they raise it as a big enough issue the developers will not fix what is such a blatantly broken issue.

Also where was this Glamour log restriction when you were adding the Collection log for Bodzja field notes?? Nier note?!?!? Zadnar notes?!?? How many retainers can we buy that require storage and space?

I think these are very different things.

You are seeing multiple small collections of things and comparing that to something far from it.

The only thing that comes close is the fishing log, and that doesn't have any interaction.

Personally in 2021 I no longer buy this honestly. Noone I have ever met who has touched this game thinks it is working correctly. I made my own thread on the MULTITUDE of reasons it is just busted.

On November 23rd they are about to add another expansions worth of glamours for us to manage. There is a snowballs chance in hell that this system is remotely long term, It stopped being Viable in HEAVENWARD.

This is like the Mogstation itself being heavily outdated. There are just underlying issues that need to be addressed before adding more on top of systems not designed to handle it.

I think the only thing we will see, at least for the foreseeable future, is more glamour dresser space. That would suit our needs just fine if it wasn't just 400 slots. If it was double that, perhaps even 1000 slots that would be more ideal at this point.

Makes me wonder if they could do their own form of void storage. Void storage just kept the item ID. It stripped all other data, whereas all other storage methods keep all the data and it sounds like a big issue with how FF14 manages storage is it keeps a full copy of items.

The glamour dresser is our void storage. Only that it stores dye data too.
