It should be a long-term goal to make Blue Mage a real job

Nope, I don't play one. I haven't even gone so far as to look up how to roll one.

Yes, I am aware of the inherent difficulty of balancing a bunch of monster abilities into PvE.

Having said that, it's just a little silly that the game has this job-that-isn't-actually-a-job. I see blue mages everywhere - it's obviously a very popular playstyle. And I really think the idea of the job itself is nifty (even if I think Gau ultimately did it better). But there's very little motivation for me to even give these guys a try when they can't access half the game's content. I mean... what's the point, exactly? You get to do really cool stuff but only when it doesn't count? That seems... unfortunate.

The thing is, making Blue Mage into a full job means taking away the things that people like about it. Some more Blue Mage exclusive stuff (like an open world Blue Mage exclusive zone similar to Eureka/ Bozja) would be cool though.

Last time I ran into this comment I recall jokingly dubbing it "BLU-reka" and thinking it should be a place designed around BLU and large scale learning spells. Possibly give rewards for when the "Learned" triggers so that repeating things isn't a waste.

Just letting them into Eureka and Bozja (when they hit level cap 80) would be good enough. Let us embrace the chaotic revival of old content that BLU can provide!

Unless the only thing they like about it is having a playflow made up of a dozen CDs, between which they spam a single key, or their success being fully and instantly rewarded solely via RNG... no, there's nothing about making BLU a full job that need take away the things people like about it.

As an avid BLU player, I think they should be able to access some more content and get some polish, but should remain limited and 10 levels below level cap because of how much damage they dish out.

Those contents count because you get to do stuff with them (cool or otherwise).

FFXIV doesn't always abandon old contents and like to reuse them, especially for PvE (roulettes, relics, contents for limited job, etc).

Making Blue Mage a "real" job would just invalidate all the contents they've made specifically for it. And it is a real job already, just limited.

This thread again. What's the point though? Just to get a 30th DPS thrown into the mix?

We were already warned beforehand that getting a BLU that needed to hunt for its spells wasn't going to fit in with the rest of the game. You can't expect the general public of this game to have a fully hunted out BLU with all the spells they need in a normal combat setting with other players. It's not fair for the BLU players to have to spend a LOT of extra time in order to play at the same level. It's also not fair to everyone else in your party to have to pull extra weight for a gimped BLU who is missing half their toolkit because they couldn't be bothered.

The alternative would have been another magical DPS with a rotation of spells that it unlocks via leveling up like every other class. But then that would take away a lot of what makes BLU special. So you need to draw the line somewhere. FFXIV is not FFXI and has a different style and combat. Monster abilities are also so varied that you would need to either change them completely or pick and choose specific ones that you can actually make a rotation out of. In the end, it would be a mess and it wouldn't please everyone anyway.

The end result was them making new, separate content for BLU. Was it successful? Some of my friends have fun with it and one has a morbol mount. I personally don't think it's fun and I was a BLU main in FFXI so I feel like I already did my time spell hunting and don't really feel keen to do it again. But despite being both a BLU and PUP mains I don't feel "betrayed" and I don't think it needs to be condensed and placed into the DPS pool either.

That is the idea, but this game is too generic/babyproof for that. People would complain and scream if that happened!

I like Blu for what it is now.

The only thing missing is a better structure for its 'endgame'.

I don't need Allied Seals anymore so there's very little incentive to me to do the weekly carnivale star challenges or run the log objectives. I feel that a bigger Gil reward or the latest tomestone as reward for those could be better.

Let Blue Mages solo the deep dungeons, and make a specific scoreboard for them. Also with an unique achievement, would not invalidate the challenge to do as other jobs (which would still be harder). Just this would add a TON of shelf life to the job. It's even possible to make it actually more challenging if they disable Pomanders for Blue Mages soloing them. Heck, they can even add new blue magic spells in deeper levels of those dungeons.
