Yoshi was asked about the possibility of this ages ago and basically said "no" from what I remember. The dragonling minion is basically the closest you're going to get to FFXI's wyvern pet I'm afraid.

Again, it wouldn't technically be a pet. If they can do DRK Shadow or NIN Clone then they can do this. If they will is another matter entirely

I mean this isn't FFXI so why does it need to play homage? Not against it for the record, but looks like Reaper will have a medium to call on to assist in attacks, having DRG doing the same thing would feel like copy and paste.

I know perfectly well what it means, doesn't answer my question though. Why does it need to pay homage to FFXI iteration specifically? The game is still live, people can go there for the full dragoon pet experience, homage isn't required.

Because in a way it makes sense. A Dragoons power literary comes from dragon kind. Dragonsong is over. Ishgard and dragon kind are trying to find a way to move forward. Plus we already have Dragonet that help the player during Dragoon Quest so....

It could be a 20s Dragonet from Tiamat's Brood that attacks with thunder breath.

That doesn't make it fitting, though, so much as merely newly permissible.

I thought besides the chocobo for solo play, there is no pet in this game?

"pets" nowaday are juste proxies for your actions that either :
-stay slightly behind you
-go to the target
-stay/go to a position and don't move
they may auto attack/heal.

That is pretty much exactly what the wyvern was in XI : following you, auto-attacking your target, and using a breath on certains actions you use.

Chocobo use actions on it's own and is still on the aggro list (like most pets prior to ShB) other than that, it has more control on it's behaviour ("role" mode) and it's actions are locked behind a grind system.

"worst" case (if anything get done) : idk if it's possible , but just glamour "blood/life of the dragon" ? just an option to replace the blue/red animation and have a wyvern instead ? (like carby/egi glam). that way it's not "more visual clutter" ; juste a trade

Can't leave out the essential point, as that's been the main commonality after taking away separate HP bars and the ability to activate pet skills even while casting other abilities.
