You're saying it like it's obvious, but you've provided no grounding reasoning here. Why would it be unreasonable for a group of typical players to hold other typical players to standards greater than absolute zero?

I highly doubt you're fine with utter irresponsibility in your other public interactions, be that driving, shopping, or even among such low stakes as in conversation or other (e.g., physical) games.

Because you did not make the rules, you did not make the group. In what standards do you have a right to tell others how to play in said content?

The game itself made that group for you and the game does not have an standard by what skill you need to be in that group. If I wanted people to play by a set standards, I would make my own group and make sure people knew what they are. Both sides can say the same thing about each other because of that. If DF had a standards that all players must follow. You than would have a right to tell people to be at it.

It is that simple. What you are saying about public interactions the other side can say the same to you about. Both sides are willing to run over each others fun. it is a no win type deal for people who want them to get better.

I'm gonna share my personal experience. When I first started the game, I was also part of the people who pressed buttons randomly. I was also part of the BRD group that I now despise--the mute bards. The problem was that FF14 was my first MMO ever, so I had absolutely no idea how MMOs work. And I don't recall the game explaining things a bit more in depth for people who, like me, were total noobs in the MMO genre. I should also note that I started the game back in 2015, so I don't recall how much guidance the game itself offered back then. Global Cooldown, Off Global Cooldown, AoE, DoTs, etc. I had no clue what any of this jargon meant. Mind you, I did make an effort to read my tooltips, but there were some skills that I couldn't understand. I remember I never used Barrage (and the OG BRD songs) back then because I just couldn't understand what it did. And I'm of the mindset that if I don't know what something does or how it works, I'd rather not use it because I don't wanna use it incorrectly.

Anyway, I was lucky enough that some time later on, the person who got me into the game (who also played BRD) gave me a few tips here and there, and they also told me about guides, which I had no idea such things even existed (again, being new to MMOs and all). And that's when my journey to get better began. Thanks to the guides, which explained my class more in depth, I was finally able to understand all my skills and when to use them efficiently. After that, I was finally able to become a good BRD, and I started to enjoy the game and the class even more.

I think it wouldn't hurt if the class quests made a bit more effort to explain what the new ability you get does or how it works instead of just handing it to you and expecting reading the tooltip to be enough. Sometimes the tooltip for a skill is an essay, and words aren't always easy to understand without some kind of an example.

I'm glad she got better - and is better at the game than me now! good job!
I'm already in an active FC, thank you for the invitation to help, though!
I'm sorry, I was not meaning it to be toxic? I thought the smile face at the end of that sentence showed that. I was mostly just confirming what you are saying is true and backing your statement up. It is 5:30 am. So if my wording was bad. Forgive me.

No, if I get matched with someone who plays poorly, it most definitely impacts how I will play and enjoy myself, and would very possibly result in my death, and as such I have every right to speak up and ask for a party member to rub two braincells together. Died during a pull because the WHM spammed Cure and didn't use Benediction or Asylum? I'll say something. Because the DNC was afraid of the pack of 12 mobs and stayed as far away as they could to single target them? I'll ask for AoEs.

So what if she's 60? She should still be very capable to learn what a DoT is, would the game actually teach. The problem is that pressure that isn't on the underperformer's shoulders has to go somewhere, and usually it's on the shoulders of the rest of the party. Most of the time, though it really shouldn't, it goes just fine, but occasionally it will go south, and just because someone is clueless about their job or the game way into lv70+ content. And when it does, it's when whoever is left alive will start feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders.

The content accessed through the DF is still a known medium, a form with a given design, situated in a certain way, from which it takes on expectations according to that form and situation. It does not matter that the people are random; the setting for their interactions is neither novel nor random.

Consider the public interactions example. Even if it were somehow absent of danger, I could expect more from others driving beside me than meandering across lanes, stopping per their fancy anywhere and anytime, etc. Even if it did not waste my already meager time to buy food, I still would not appreciate someone else's child running headlong across the deli counter. Even if there were no trauma possible, I would not appreciate someone entering a conversation just to, through blatant lack of tact or compassion, sour everyone's mood. And one can obviously judge or channel their own actions accordingly. One need not make the "rules" -- though even that is too strong and too inflexible a word -- to have an understanding and appreciation of what behaviors do or do not burden others.

Dungeons as reached through the dungeon finder are still a setting which at the very least gives incentive and situation for certain behaviors, from which one may infer how they are meant to be interacted with. If one's behaviors are clearly at ends with its systems of situation and incentive, those they are burdening have every right to complain.

Yes, there are limits, lest the burden simply swap from one's access, in being able to do what content they want within the reasonable limitations of their available time and skill, to another's enjoyment, in being able to interact with the content in a particular way (that is still at least reasonable given how that content is situated and its incentives managed through design). But there is no hard rule of "if random, be mute".

Certainly eye opening. Although some of us knew this indeed was the case regarding Duty Finder, but to view someone actually admitting it, baffles the mind, not really, but. Where's that Forrest Gump line...

It has nothing to do with said person enjoyment, and everything to do with your own. Hey, at least you can say the same about the other person. They play how they want running over your enjoyment right?
Why should i create a PF just to get people that know how to read and press buttons in sequence?
What? It should be the opposite because you are the minority
When people only do 50% of their work at their job IRL, causing burning deadliness and not delivering the product to the customer, while simultaneously increasing work for other members, they don't get a pat on their head telling "good job pal, keep working at your enjoyment", no.
They get a warning and then eventually get fired.
Now before you say "But this is not a job, it is a game" and I would tell you are correct. But the thing is, you are not alone in this game. This is a multiplayer game. Thousands of people play with you.
You (well not you in particular) are wasting others people's time and ruining their enjoyment in the game. And for god's sake, do not take this phrase to the extreme (aka minmaxing your gear and rotation like it was an ultimate fight)

I mean you could, but don't be shocked if you get reported for it. You dying in a video game in a DF group might not be fun for you, but you can leave the group instead of telling players to do better. So if you pick to stay in that DF group. You got to deal with players like me.

So everything you just said could be turned around for the other person as well. You wanting to get through the content as fast as you can, hinders my enjoyment to play how I want. As long as the content gets done even at a slower pace. I'm happy to play how I want to play and enjoy the game in my way. It is that simple, and is acceptable to the community for players such as myself in that settings. It is acceptable and the content is DESIGN around getting done with my level of skill. Someone who does not use certain skills i might not like. If players don't like the pace, get the others to vote kick or leave yourself. That is the only say and power you have. Any other will just be ignored, or get reported.
