That is funny, because a game is just a game. I don't need progression to enjoy the game. You take this game far too serious, your whole examples made me chuckle. Like, not everyone has the same values as you. DF content is design for people who can play how they want and still get through it. No need to be a drama queen about "skill" in a match making system.
