Please implement something to teach players how to play

because we realize that its just a game and if you want to gate players from content for not being up to snuff and offer no help to them crossing the gap then we would rather you be the one removed from the game than them. its simple, yet complex to some.

I will humor you though, why the heck not. What kinda help am I supposed to offer exactly? When I am not queuing with friends (something I infrequently do anymore) and notice someone truly struggling we always assist where we can. Other times I enjoy watching them learn, tis more fun to experience the mechanic before someone ruins it for you I feel. If they ask for assistance I will offer it but if they do not I will not unless it prevents us from clearing the content. There are exceptions though. I am paying for this game to play it not to guide others through the fundamentals of their class. If I chose on given days or am simply not in the correct mood I will not help. If I feel that someone is beyond help, I will not help. This is not complex concept to understand and does not exist in other games.

How many matches of Overwatch would you stop to explain the importance of properly raising and dropping your Reinhardt shield so that it regenerates? I have never encountered this type of behavior anywhere but in FF14, seriously it is darn peculiar. "Please pay a monthly subscription to help me play or do not queue." Rude much? Really.. the heck. We help because we wish to not because we are obligated to.

Well you see, there are these three other players (minimum) that are real living people who may prefer their teammates not to sandbag in a team based exercise. Crazy! I know! If helping them benefits the team then sure, why the heck not or if someone feels like being nice they can help for this reason too. We often do. There is a streamer called Violentdestruction I watch who does all the fricken time.

Do you know what usually occurs? One hour of bashing his head against a wall during extreme trials because no one is reading chat.

It does not matter what hobby or activity, if someone is holding the group back and refuses to improve (refuses not is incapable) there will be feist. It could be a band or sports team or any other recreational hobby. No one wishes to put in more effort then those around them for little to no reward.

I refuse to explain this again so this is the last time I am writing this for the clones.

This is a team based exercise. The entire team is expected to perform at the best of their ability before accepting the queue. If you feel you are not able to do this it is you who should not queue.

I fit into group B, the average shmuck. I make mistakes and misalign my rotation. I space out and forget to cleanse that doom sometimes. My numbers are fairly average. What I do not do is intentionally not press buttons because reasons. If I do not like a class or feel I play it poorly I stop playing it until I improve. If this were a single player game perhaps things would be different.

I care about the time of others on my team enough to give it my bestest.

If proper tutorials or more challenging content gatekeeps players that know they are playing poorly in team games yet proceed to do so anyways then lash out at their team for being upset then sign me up on team toxic elitist I suppose.

This post, for example, started out as "I'm frustrated. SE, do something to teach these people how to play", and devolved into "yeah, I have people who don't play to my expectations", and then further devolved into analogies that equate people who don't play the way (or as well) as others to people who prefer Communism because they're "lazy".

to long didn't read, tried to skim it but is sounded self serving and smug attempt to be facetious, i'm sure in your specific hypothetical scenario you are a golden god of righteousness... but none of it matters in a random queue where a computer pairs you with other wanting to run. its not your party its not your show to run, you are only as important as anyone else there, no one is acting like a sprout invited themselves to you static savage farm. yall are mad that people in the first month of their game that are still getting threw the quest line don't know the mechanics to a dungeon that they unlocked 20 mins ago somehow is impeding you game play experience, even tho all those dungeons bosses are easily solo-able for most that know the mechanics. and if not are at least do-able down one person who caught a mechanic.

as nethereal said, it wasn't aimed at you directly but more or less aimed at similar posts, those who insult and flame everyone that isn't them while they're also the first ones to be offended at another player's behalf

anyone doing anything to antagonize should be called out, regardless of sides, but a new player not knowing mechanics is not that, a veteran player harassing a sprout because they don't want to be bothered is.

so many people hold their head so high because they think themselves good at a game that is designed to be beaten.. they use that smug to look down on others instead of helping, granted they are usually the casuals pretending to be hardcore..
the real hardcore know how to help each other learn and keep the game a friendly environment for the sake of morale and completion.

OP - and others including me - are talking about players who are at max level, of players who should know how to play their class at an average, decent level
not a single person is asking for savage/ultimate-tier performance from randoms and yet:

as you can read throughout the thread, most of those so-called "toxic elitists" are trying to help people and are met with negative responses because people do not like to have their bad playstyle/behaviour pointed out and will invent scenarios to make the person that tries to help look bad and said behaviour, if you experience it often enough, will also make the person trying to help less likely to help the next person that's struggling

Also, Im not going to bother trying to teach people things in game. Been there, done that. You get screamed at.

TO clarify: I'm mainly concerned about level 70-80 characters having these issues.

that's not: "considering the very first post comes down to "get gud" and "Im not helping the newbs" im going to graciously disagree with half your point."
that's: "I'm tired of being insulted for trying to help someone who shouldn't need help"

there is a reason we have to watch cut-scenes in main scenario roulette and this community knows what side is to blame. the self centered elite that have no time for new players getting the same chance they did to experience the content as new.

Let me give a new player perspective as I just started a few weeks ago. (my own, not speaking for anyone)

Most of us new players will get better but if we are frustrated and feel unwelcome then we won't be around in the end which may be the goal of this thread in the end for all I know. Placing impediments on players to keep them out of content is an MMO killer. This game has a rep of players being kind to each other but this thread reads suspiciously like a git gud M+ Wow thread.

this isn't about new players being treated badly, this thread is about players with a maxed out class playing like they never played it before, in "end game" content none the less

I know this exact feeling! I see plenty of sprouts running about the Crystal Tower now, more then even when I started eight or so months ago it is always neat watching them because I remember how overwhelmed I felt healing there for first time. Getting family to play the game with my partner, we managed to convince fifteen (possibly more) to join now! Two of them loved their first time healing Crystal Tower so much they almost refuse to not heal raids.

I also remember being shouted at specifically in the alliance chat for not getting onto my pad. I assumed I had to run to my pad to survive and all eight needed to be on the pads and the tank pulled the boss all the way to pad A. One misjudged timing on that cast later and I am being yelled at. Just me for reasons unknown, not the ten other people who also did not make it.

I would later discover that the person who yelled at me was not playing very well themselves and was probably upset they could not clear as fast as they wished. Perhaps in some of my posts I came across as this player who wishes for nine minute super optimal speed runs. Not me not my friends not my family. Go out there and make those mistakes just be sure to learn from them tis all I personally ask.

There are also two bajillion different fights in the game, no one expects anyone to have eidetic recall of all of them. Heck I forget half of them until I am in the fight. I just hate explaining the fight or trying to only to have Johnny rapid pull mc grayparse waste everyone's time before I can eek out two words.

It would be nice too if the game better explained certain things especially during the job quests, sense that is what I feel the thread was originally about. Unsure about the WoW stuffs, my uncle sings the praises of older mmorpgs and the amazing adventures he had there raiding and exploring.
