I think he's on to something... and remember the dude is only in early ARR content. He's gonna lol when he gets to anything else. Tho it'll be funny as hell if he hates HW and likes SB since he's into ARR story. I'd laugh my ass off. Glad he's liking the game tho honestly. Considering he was sick of seeing it about a week ago since people kept spamming the man about it.

Quick summary of my views on things:

Our game and community has its own problems. We're not going to suddenly become horrible with -yet another- burst of players joining the game. You can look at the widely varied join dates in these forums alone to see that we're not an insular community. And you can look at mine to verify that I'm one of the one's qualified to say "I don't see anything new here."

Asmongold Bald (I'm going to chuckle at that name, I can't believe he chose it.) Is a decent person and a good player. I'm not always entertained by his streaming style, but I don't think of him as a bad person. The fact that he's giving FFXIV an honest shot amide the many, many people harassing him both ways about it is a testament of his temperance in the face of his chosen profession. Props to him for being able to deal with so many people and staying open minded. I couldn't do it.

The fact that he is bringing so many eyes to FFXIV may seem intimidating, but we've handled large groups joining before. This game is big enough to accompany them and good enough to convert the majority of them over to the sort of culture we have in the game where people are, buy in large, chill people who are enjoying their time here. It's the reason why this game is so fervently defended and loved - there's something here for nearly everyone. I hope Asmond and the people encouraged by his streaming have a good time and find their home here in FFXIV.

I'll be holding them all to the same standard I always do. Be kind - do what you can to play well and comfortably - enjoy the game as best you can and try to encourage the same for others. It's really that simple.

The bad first impression is starting to add up surrounding account creation - mostly around the logistics. If people care about getting new players into the game they have got to tell them how to make new characters when every server seems to be locked.

Congratulations, you managed to set aside your preconceived notions about Asmongold (trust me, I had them also) and see a side of him that is quite different from the Stream Persona. I was surprised myself by how different he was in his ZackRawrr videos, but I quickly understood that is because that's.. you know, Zack, the actual person talking rather than Asmongold.

It makes you realize most of what he's doing on stream while playing FFXIV is probably on purpose, acting disgusted by Lala's, mispronouncing everything, not unlocking anything that most players would, not using porters, not configuring his UI, etc.
