Why the JP community mentality is superior to the EN community mentality

I recently read an article on the savage clear rates and I was really surprised that JP clear rates are so much higher than NA and EU clear rates. But as I took a step back, I realized that that isn't such a big surprise at all. I think if we want to improve as a community, we really need to learn from how the JP mentality.

    1. The group comes before the individual

It is well-known that East Asian culture is collectivist and people prioritize the group over the individual. Western society is very individualistic and people just selfishly think about their own benefits. In Japan, everyone puts the family before themselves. They think of their country before themselves. In FF14, they think of the party before themselves. So they won't risk crazy strats just so they can get a bit more DPS. That never happens in JP.

    2. They really emphasize respect

In Japanese culture, from a very young age, Japanese people are taught to value family members and strangers with huge respect. They bow down when meeting strangers. In duty finder, this means they want to respect the strangers they got grouped with and respect their time. That means everyone tries to respect each other's time and so they do their best to finish the instance as safely and quickly as possible. In Western society, since everyone is individualistic, that means that people don't care about others and don't care about finishing the instance as quickly as possible, and only care about their own enjoyment. If seven people care about finishing it as quickly as possible, and one doesn't, that one doesn't is going to drag everyone down.

    3. They are very collectivist so everyone follows the same rules

Because Japanese culture is so collectivist, everyone follows the same strategies. That means everyone does things the same way so there are no surprises. For example, they have macros and everyone follows those macros and know what to do. In Western society, because the culture is very individualistic, people do their own strategy and the result is a mess because no one knows what others are doing and have to keep learning about new strategies.

In conclusion, the JP community mentality is superior to the EN community mentality. If NA and EU want to improve, they need to start learning from JP and be less individualistic and selfish.

and I can't wait for him to come back crying wondering why he can't join any group whatsoever later because he kept letting his "individuality" slip out like he does in these forums.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

The problem with the JP side of things is that when they do decide to reject people they do it on a much grander scale and actually have public blacklists they use to spread knowledge of players they view as problems.

There's also some degree of racism present among them and they've been know to shun non-JP players even if they're fluent in Japanese.

I'd say that they're still better overall, but they're definitely not perfect.

JP has better practice parties, almost everyone stays for full lockout. Compare this to NA/EU where people join practice parties for few pulls.
It is also for this reason why JP has better clear rates for harder content compared to NA/EU.

They refuse to carry bad players in clear/farm parties.
They will simply black list the bad player in the party, disband, and set PF again.

JP community is not perfect. If a player shows really bad performance, they will most likely be known for that to the majority of people who do content via PF.
That player will get black listed by most people and have a harder time clearing content.

You basically contradicted your own statement. If they respect strangers so much, they would not force the 8th man to be quick but respect his or her pace and help him out, as the collectivist mind would suggest.

Individualism is fine, because it allows you to thrive. There is a reason why communism never worked. And I am also sure this almost communist style of investment and reward is equally bad because it hinders cappable people because the "collective" does it always the same thing, always the same macro as you say. Also, being an indvidiualist as you call me, you can not label me. We are too diverse and individual. In my very last dungeon, a Duty Finder Balsaer Wall, I literally kept the group alive as Red Mage. The healer was overly busy with the mechanics of her profession, so 20% of my cast times where Vercures left and right. That is pretty contrary to what you said about being selfish.

But then, I wonder if you every played on a JP server for a long time to begin with...

    Sincerely,

Your Red Mage that loves to Vercure by sacrificing own damage output and Scholar that is there to keep you all alive so you can do your thing - Greetings from Europe.

Not true. I've been playing on JP servers for close to 7 years now if your fluent in Japanese you're welcome in all of the party. The whole hoo-haa about JP only is for Japanese language only so if you have the language down there is no limitation holding you back. I also pug every raid since bahamut where you used to stand outside wineport to ask for party.

Did you explicitly state that you're an English player?

They're obviously not going to think anything of it if they don't actually know better, but I've seen some people saying it's generally better to not speak English outside of private chat for that reason. There's not necessarily a LOT of people who feel that way, but they definitely exist.
