This might sound a little silly to ask, but you're using just the regular GPU drivers? If you are, can you try the Studio drivers (if you're still using the 3080 that you've posted originally)? There's something that windows doesn't like between Nvidia's and AMD's regular drivers and how SE has DirectX (9 and 11 both can have issues, but 9 is less frequent) implemented in the game.

FFXIV is the first game where my CPU has way less work than my GPU and it will just clock super high when in limsa or any city state while the GPU is rendering everything. There's a point where it hits an instability from automatically boosting while the temps and workload is low, the clock speed is nearly max.

I'm unsure if Intel has a desktop counterpart but I manually clocked my CPU to its base speed with a decent voltage and I have not had a single crash since I've done this. Try researching into manual clocking your 10850k, if there's a way to turn off the boost I'd start there at least.
Unironically, this was one thing i tried and i still kept crashing (Ryzen 7 3700x). I get WHEA logger errors for overclocking, which i thought was being caused by my CPU just doing it's normal boosting, but i'm fairly positive it's how SE has DirectX implemented in the game that's causing a conflict with drivers and how Windows wants to handle it. I was able to recover from a crash (by some luck with using windows GPU driver refresh key combo) and it showed a driver timeout error from AMD with also getting a DirectX fatal error from FF14, and didn't show a WHEA logger error for overclocking. I swapped to from AMD's regular driver at current revision (21.7.1) to AMD's pro drivers (content creators drivers, version 21.6.1) and i flickered a couple of times with complete recovery each time without my own intervention, and haven't had any DirectX fatal errors or driver timeouts.

Same errors here, have not been able to fix it. Tried stock RAM speeds, underclocking GPU by 500 MHz, turning off all overlays, disabling game mode, updating BIOS, using debug mode in NVIDIA driver for stock speeds. Only game with issues on my computer. Ryzen 3600, MSi 2070 Gaming Z for specs.

Edit: Also on a newer install of Windows from when the original had issues, game is on C drive (seen that issue before) and also tried disabling fullscreen optimizations.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

    1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
    2) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
    3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
    4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

No real changes have been made to my PC since the issue began, it practically started happening as soon as I started playing the game on my new PC. None of hardware is overheating, I never even really get above 60 degrees between my CPU and GPU. My graphics card has a factory overclock but I've tried underclocking it with MSI Afterburner and also used NVIDIA debug mode to set the clock speed back to base value, neither solution fixed the issue. I don't use any sort of mods/injectors and the only sort of overlay I have is an NVIDIA overlay, which I've tried completely disabling when the issue came around and it didn't fix it. I've also turned off fullscreen optimizations and that hasn't helped. I guess next time it appears I can attempt to unplug any USB's, any other suggestions?

Good afternoon and thank you for the reply.

Could you try using a registry cleaner such as CC cleaner? It will run and remove files that may have been left behind by installation another activity on the PC. To so, please remove the game and then restart the PC. Run the registry cleaner and then restart the computer. Once the computer has been reset please reinstall the game again. After reinstalling the game, please restart the PC once more. Once the PC has been reset, please launch the game.

I tried this with all the exact steps listed and still crashed a couple hours after the reinstall. Crashes mainly seem to happen whenever i tab out of the game but can still happen without that as well. Installed on my second drive and not my main SSD with my OS and haven't crashed yet so I guess we'll see if this works.

I've used the registry cleaner on CCleaner multiple times before but I guess I can go ahead and try to reinstall the game in the order you listed. I don't think it'll do anything though since I've had the issue since the first fresh install of the game on this PC, honestly just getting to the point where I'm considering selling this PC and getting another one.

Hi guys, I had this problem as well and spent ages going through Google to find solutions from changing graphic settings, game window size and other nonsense. It kept happening to me when I reached Sea of Clouds area and couldn't progress the MSQ any more...so completely game breaking.

This is how I fixed it. I used a program called Revo Uninstaller to remove the game, you have an option to clear out everything in the registry related to the game. After that I also used CCleaner free version since I saw it mentioned just in case there was a problem elsewhere. I noticed it cleaned some stuff around .net framework but honestly I don't think this was the issue. After that, just reboot and downloaded, installed the game. Now everything is fine.

I'm on a Ryzen 7 5800x, rog strix 3070, 32gb ram etc. My ram is 3666mhz. My gcard is an overclocked model by default. My Cpu does cpu boost so it's overlocking. I say this because people mention overlocking and to me this seems like a myth.

Tried all this unfortunately and still crashed. Went ahead and installed on my second drive which is an HDD and haven't crashed yet so I ordered a 120gb SSD that I'm going to install solely for FFXIV. If that doesn't work time to get a new computer I guess lmao
