Harassment to Asmongold on his 1st day stream is an Embarassment to FF Community

Yes it’s already covered in the other thread, but in case many others don’t go into that main thread, here’s the PSA to the entire community.

During Asmongold’s first day stream today, people in Cactuar were crowding and blocking NPCs, spamming Holy and flashy magic, killing quest mobs, killing all other mobs, blocking mobs with Mounts, for hours.

In Twitch and Reddit, it was claimed that “these were done by his fans who wanted him to quit FF”, which is probable. But some of these harassment also came from max level players wearing Ultimate weapon with rare, difficult to get mounts, so hopefully it’s none of the FF fanbase.

On a positive note, he had a good experience in Satasha with helpful party members as well.

This is just a call of notice to say that the FF community is better than this, and everyone deserves their chance to play and enjoy the game, as much as anyone else. We were all refugees from other games at one point, and regardless which streamer you like or dislike, they should be given the chance to try out the game.

I’m sure someone will call me out for generalizing everybody, that’s not my intention. This was just the observation of what happened today and it’s worth a notice.

That's just the consequence you get as a result of being a fairly well-known figure in this space. He was probably fully aware of the probability before it even happened. Whilst I agree the community is better than this, it's just worth bearing in mind that some of the folk are genuinely happy he's giving the game a first-hand try. I'd argue many of them probably don't realize just how inconvenient it can be for the streamer.

That's the price of being a 'celebrity'

He was well prepared for something like this to happen, and he was fine in the end.
Lets stop sensationalizing it, at the end of the day, he actually had a good time all things considered, and hes gonna play more

What is the reason that the ToS could not be enforced?

It seems to me to have been a bureaucratic issue. Like GMs could not intervene due to a technicality (GMs can not act as witnesses to harassment or something like that. GMs do not read beyond the titles of a complaint and the title was chosen wrong cause streaming is not their area of influence.)

Do you have to file a report for each and every individual who is harassing you, which in turn needs to get approved before any action can be taken?

Is it in practice impossible for a big streamer to enjoy protection like any other player?

Do the ToS in edge cases effectively not apply / only theoretically apply?

You're kind of assuming his people in his fan base don't play both games. Don't they always do stuff like this to troll him in every game? I doubt it has anything to do with getting him to quit lol

It's a lot easier to enforce the ToS when they're small isolated incidents. It's not the easiest endeavor in the world however to enforce when the harassment on an individual player is essentially the size of the capacity for the zone. Something on this scale either requires arrangements or a significant collaborative effort between multiple GMs. Taking into account that GMs will already be dealing with reported incidents outside of this.

It's a lot of players to track, be it for an individual, or even for a couple of individuals, players, or otherwise. There are still multiple people in that zone that are otherwise doing quest progression. It's a lot easier to critique it when you aren't the one responsible for clearing up the mess in the first place.

No but the cost of being a well-known player, streamer or celebrity is that infringement on your privacy or even enjoyment, unfortunately.

Unfortunately stream snipers do this weird behaviour to most streamers. They follow them around and try to appear on the 'camera' to get their moment of fame. Just check out Rich Campbell who's streaming right now, people clogging his screen wherever he goes just trying to appear on it for some reason.

Not much can be done about it realistically, most streamers just assume that if they stream an MMO they'll have a ton of 'spergs' following them.

If the streamers choose to play the games off stream thats when they get to experience the game as per usual for the most part which I assume most do.

That being said the behaviour of all these people is truly embarrassing. I imagine most of them are probably kids.

He said he knew it would happen. And that it happens on every game he tries.
People often forget he has few million followers and people can play more games than just one. So it's just a common sense to think that he has thousands of FFXIV players fanboying him and some of those are the ones doing the shitty behavior
