Asmongold needs a proactive GM to help them

Regardless of what we may think of him, he's streaming FFXIV on https://www.twitch.tv/asmongold (and the stream currently has 113k viewers) on Cactaur , but he's getting a horde of people following him around and it may behoove the community team to reach out to him as he's getting a bit frustrated.

To be honest i'm sure he knew this would happen, he seems a smart guy.

If he didn't want this to happen he could have created a character off stream and set the HUD not to display character name or server name, effectively playing anonymously.

I know eventually people would have worked it out from the name mentions in the cut-scenes, and a lodestone search for the character/server, but it would have been a peaceful start for the first day.

However I do agree with you, he could be a great ambassador for the game, and should be offered any help SE could give.

I thought the same thing when I followed his 2 days in the stream, it's a little sad how he has to fight with such an annoying crowd. He even wrote a ticket halfway through the first day and still not much changed, even though he had a little less people following him on the second day.
Makes me as a longtime FFXIV player sad to see that, I do not understand how people can be so intrusive, once a warm and short welcome, I could understand on the first day, but you do not have to pester him so much.
Just imagine this shit as your first in game experience.


And in addition, the behavior of these people violated at least 2 ToS of the game, why there is no GM engaged I do not understand.

Also there was no way he could have done anything, the streamsnipers would have figure his server and position out in no time anyway.

It looked like he had far less follower on day 2.

You should also keep in mind that there are a lot of first timer who just want to do the story together with him.
It's then natural that they are on the same spot as him.

And I also took a look into the dungeons he did and the player there seemed to be helpful and supportive.

But yeah, a GM should have a eye on him to get rid of the really annoying player.

If he has an issue he is more than capable of asking for help himself. I know you mean well but he is not a newbie to the MMO world and I’m sure if things reach a point to where he is truly vexed he will make a report.

Well he kinda did and that went no where.

The problem here isn't so much Asmongold.... but how bad it's making the FFXIV vets look because they're actively being problematic. We say we're better than the WoW players.... his past two streams are kinda disproving that and I don't really like that tbh.

I'm not really certain if that's accurate, but supposedly he is wealthy, so... yeah, my heart and sympathies go to people less fortunate and poverty stricken.

Rumor is that some have already been actioned on (which is good).

IMO we should let him play, let him do his thing. This is only making the community look bad - we're supposed to be most welcoming and least toxic of all communities and this event has shown that not to be the case. Even worse, it has given ammo to the haters. Asmongold is probably going to be sticking around for a while especially while WoW keeps screwing up.

I honestly do not care who it is, everyone should be able to be able to play a video game in peace, and if this person really wanted that, they would have created a character that wasn't recognizable, and then not stream it.

But instead this person streamed in front of a very large crowd, people knew he was coming a week or so in advance, and has a very large following, and all this was likely motivated by viewership numbers and publicity; because all of this equals money.

If he wants to play, then let him play, but he needs to be the one to create some reasonable restrictions for himself, otherwise, he's kind of opening himself up to... gee i don't know, not playing in peace.

Besides, we WANT people to stream and show how good FFXIV is as that's free PR for FFXIV, and it helps get more subs, which gets SE more money, and us more stuff.
