Open World PvP

OP: I want open PVP so I can kill people I disagree with and kill unsuspecting players who are trying to progress the game in one way or another, creating a new threat to anything you do in the open world.

Most anti open-PVP: No that sounds horrible and not like the game we've enjoyed for howevermany years.

PVP "activists" : YOU HATE PVP BECAUSE YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND IT AND/OR ARE SOFT!

The hot takes in this thread are unreal. I haven't posted in ages, but continue to lurk and read threads (mostly for entertainment, because ye gods this place is uh... well, it IS entertaining, I'll just leave it at that). But I was compelled to write a bit after reading this whole ridiculous thread. Y'all are seriously acting indignant over people saying they don't want folks to be able to wantonly gank low-lever players or crash weddings and hunt trains uninvited and spinning that into "you don't want the game to grow and change! This is why it's stagnating!"

Wild.

Re: the sociopath comment - I certainly wouldn't be bothered by a random drive-by on a message board consisting of no more than "I was going to go with sociopath." And van_arm himself seems to not be bothered by it either, going by his reply to the comment in question:

So no need to white knight for him so hard, sheesh. Didn't think the "GCBTW!!"!" crowd would be so damn soft! Also, a bunch of people who like to spam GCBTW at every opportunity have said that they partly started banging on ABOUT GCBTW in the first place because they were sick of seeing too many FFXIV "positivity" memes, which is itself slightly ironic. I know which one I'm far more sick of seeing by now.

He's significantly more mature than the vast majority of naysayers in this thread.

Once again the FFXIV players supposedly so concerned with 'toxicity' prove to be among the first to resort to personal attacks and attempted character assassination of individuals they do not know in the slightest.

The idea that Lauront's "you're all so UGU SOFTY CAREBEAR" comment is more mature than people explaining why they don't want forced (non-opt-in) open-world PVP (because seriously... that's what most have been saying. This idea that they HATE pvp in general or would never "allow" opt-in open-world pvp was created out of nothing) is uh... singularly hilarious.

"character assassination" I mean really. "He's just being edgy" is not character assassination, my goodness me. It's just people picking at each other on a forum. If calling large swathes of the playerbase (including, by inference, basically everyone in this thread who is anti-non-opt-in open-world PVP) ugu softie carebears is "just memes! Not actually an insult! Lighten up!" then why couldn't you let something as mild as "He's just being edgy lol" pass without going into SERIOUS VOICE and scolding Artemiz about maturity and character assassination (the use of that term in this context still cracks me the hell up, by the way. That's probably why I keep writing it. Or maybe it's because I just like being wordy)?
Seriously though, on that note, why are the GCBTW types the quickest to take umbrage at the smallest little thing, yet they also cannot pass up ANY opportunity to drop a comment or a #GCBTW! meme, etc.? It's becoming an FFXIV-internal version of "SJW": it's just employed whenever someone says anything you don't like and thus, has lost whatever meaning it might have once had.

So being anti-ganking, anti-crashing weddings uninvited, anti-NON-OPT-IN open world pvp is anti fun?
