No Thanks. Open world pvp isn't fun.
Hated it in lineage 2 (and the small amount of wow I played a decade or so ago)

same, i cant stand pvp i avoid it at all costs in every game i play. i just wanna log on and finish this quest and not have to watch my back incase a group of kids decide their bored and wanna spawn camp my body yea no i got better things to do with my time
God please let me have the chance to ambush some poor sap running around the overworld and slap them with stuns, binds and interrupts. I would not hesitate to become the most obnoxious PvPer if open world PvP existed.

Greetings fellow forum posters. I post this thread today in order to promote and spur discussion on open world pvp in 14. I know this might be a bit of a hot take around these parts, but I believe it would improve the game immensely. Primarily in the social grouping aspect as it would encourage partying when questing more due to safety in numbers. Furthermore, it could be used as a way to settle disputes between players. In short, might would make right. It would also be a good way for players that have issues with certain pfs a way to take care of those without swamping an overworked GM with reports. Thoughts?
Lets go through this.. it would force you to group up to progress or risk being griefed..
You think having better gear or higher level makes you "right"..
Having the ability to just walk in and kill people doing things you don't agree with is how you'd like to solve your problem.
What part of this is "Improving the game immensely" for anyone except griefers?
To be fair at least you're morally consistent in your posts. But this is just all kinds of not what FFXIV has been about for 10 years.
Oh look.. exactly why we shouldn't do this. Thank you for writing it out.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
If you truly believe in your argument then have the force to back it up. Furthermore, yes it would improve player relations immensely and really build a sense of community or risk being a target because of your actions. All that being said, as I mentioned in a previous post, I would be fine with some restrictions.Lets go through this.. it would force you to group up to progress or risk being griefed..

There is no reason that being able to beat someone in a video game makes you "right" unless the argument is over say "which build of paladin is better for PVP".
So we should have people acquiescing to player enforced standards. Fearing mob griefing if they don't play the game how other people want?
Any restriction I would want implemented would remove all your reasons for having it.

Hey, it certainly makes people more polite with fear of reprisal from being discourteous. There is no reason that being able to beat someone in a video game makes you "right" unless the argument is over say "which build of paladin is better for PVP".

You're welcome lol.Lets go through this.. it would force you to group up to progress or risk being griefed..

Settle disputes between players? Might would make right? Uhh, not likely .
Here's a few scenarios:
Let's say- player A ganks player B.
Followed by one of several of the following:
1-player A camps player B. Player B is no longer able to complete their quest and may log or return OR they try to complete, and get killed again by playe A- at which point player A logs for the night. Well that settled THAT argument, player B definitely hates player A
2- player A and B fight it out. One wins, the loser decides to escalate, their friends join in, or their FC. A rumble ensues. One side loses, but a good time is had, no one holds a grudge.
That's just a couple of quick thoughts. In one, agreed, social group is promoted, PVP leads to a good time (yes I really believe that happens).
The other side of the coin is another aspect of OW PvP that leads to anxiety for those people who really do not want to PvP and in no way leads to any settling of disputes. Not everyone wants to group all of the time nor should they be forced to do so.
Before you throw "carebear" at me - I played in OW PvP games for years and enjoyed them. I don't think it's reasonable to suddenly introduce that model into this game - more dungeons, maybe a single map- by all means- but not OW everywhere.
Open world PvP is fun. But the way this game divorced PvE skills with PvP skills make it not possible without some major changes, and I don't see that ever happening. It's a FF game after all and FF fans are more into RP than any kind of challenge.
