    Instance/Dungeon Question

    Hiyas!

Just started playing recently and I was curious as to if and when one should start looking up information on instances/dungeons. I was able to make it though the first couple pretty easily, but I have a feeling they will get more difficult as time goes on. Is there a pretty hard cut point where it is best to have some prior knowledge of the dungeon before entering? I'd rather not drag down a group if I can help it.

    Prior knowledge is not required.
    I wouldn't fret.

However, if you do wanna go in armed with knowledge I find that gamerescape has good info on each dungeon (link provided for Brayflox, and the rest of the dungeons can be found in a footer at the bottom of the page).
Hopefully this helps, and either way glhf

You don't need to do any special research for dungeons. When people say "read a guide" they're almost always talking about high level endgame content. Nothing in a regular dungeon requires prep-work like that. Just say you're new at the start and people are generally happy to explain anything you need to know.

The main story has you join the Grand Company of your choice at level 20. (Quest level 20. You'll likely already be higher level when you get to that point in the story.)

Free Companies can be joined at any time as long as you're not on the free trial.

All dungeons are designed to be able to be done blind, without prior knowledge. You may mess things up and occasionally you may die, but they are easy enough that one experienced player can carry the other 3 through the dungeon.

Dungeons are designed to not have many mechanics that kill you in isolation because they are for the story quests and they don't want them to prevent you progressing. They are designed for very casual players that are not necessarily any good at the game.

You can lookup a guide so that you know of any rare one-hit mechanics, but guides tend to over-complicate it. They will spend 5 minutes showing diagrams explaining mechanics that last a split second - that, in practice, are obvious and easy. Seeing these complicated diagrams can give you more anxiety than you had before watching the guide.

Dungeons don't really get harder, but they do get more beautiful and more fun.

No dungeon is so difficult or heavily gimmicked that you need foreknowledge. Go in unspoiled. Die to the things. It'll be fine.

You only need to pre-study for duties named "____ (Extreme)", "The Minstrel's Ballad: ____" or "____ (Savage)", if the party leader doesn't specifically indicate that people can join without foreknowledge.

it depends on how fast you can adapt and learn new things. if you take a long time, foreknowledge could help immensely
it also depends on if you can remember the foreknowledge in a way that is even useful. I don't remember any of it till i do it at least once. only then do videos help at all. i simply cannot connect the video with the action until I have experienced the action.

Came to say this. Normal mode never gets difficult enough that you really need a guide to jump in. If you are someone who likes to watch them anyway(or watch them after to help you remember what you did) then i tend to recommend Mizzteq's guides on youtube. If you can handle the puns, she includes lots of actual video and fairly clear explanations. Her tactics arent always the best(she makes the guides when the content is new and the community might come up with better ideas over time), but they will help you through most everything.
