XIV as a whole is very heavy on exposition at times, but I largely don't mind it; being one of those people who talks to all of the random NPCs out and about.
Ivalice was a rare exception because I'm not enough of a rabid FFT/FFXII fan to be terribly drawn in by what was basically a plot summary of the two games albeit with some key details changed to try to make them mesh better with the established setting.
XIV also rides heavily on nostalgia, but I feel like the Ivalice raids went a little too hard on that for my tastes, so Bozja dialing it back more then a few notches was welcome.

I think putting the ending to Ivalice in the Field Reports was bad, especially with how that ending was written.
