But if you did all that, the vast reduction in annoyance might increase the number of crafters by a third or more. And then what would be the point of being a crafter, if almost everyone's a crafter? /s

The point would be to craft for oneself. I'm early game still (lvl32) and I use crafting A TON! I craft all my weapons and just enjoy leveling up my crafting.
I do believe I hear your 'true' concern that making crafting less annoying, or more optimally efficient, would reduce the cost of goods on the market board (guessing this is presupposition to your stance?) but maybe I'm missing something? If it is for gil profits alone that you worry, then maybe that's an issue in itself outside of crafting. As I would much rather see everyone being able to craft optimally efficient and there be a surplus of goods available at low prices to those who wish to avoid crafting and purchase instead.
One likely adjustment to the market should this occur is the price of GATHERING sky rocketing. Gathering still will not change in annoyance and with the increase in crafters, demand for crafting supplies will increase with it. Thus, opening a new doorway to produce gil from 'annoying' pursuits.

I think it's because you can't "equip a class".
You can equip a tool or equip a gearset, and you'll change to the associated class as a result, but those aren't universal things that can be put in the crafting menu for everyone.
Possibly they could create a system where you designate a gearset to be associated with each crafter and then the crafting menu can auto-equip that gearset for you.
For now, though, I think you might be able to switch classes without leaving the menu if you've set the gearsets to your hotbar. I set those up a while ago though I tend to forget they're there, so I can't remember whether you can switch while in the crafting menu or if it just saved opening the Character and Gear Set menus.

I craft a fair bit, and I must do it much differently since I , well... to be honest, I "plan ahead" I make a number of the finished materials ahead of time so the raw materials are not taking up inventory space anywhere. Then I just take out what I need for whatever items I intend to craft. this "making on the fly" concept seems like a huge waste of time and effort.
I don't really care about the time it takes. It just feels real awkward to go through so many keystrokes to return to the same crafting menu. From a UI stand-point, it is a mediocre design. I understand there are technical issues due to swapping jobs, but they also said that about not letting our characters eat while sitting.

I work at a software company, and many things, are based off what time can be allotted from development resources to add a QoL thing. sometimes, while something seems reasonable, it just cant be fit into the cycle. if its considered a REALLY good idea, they may hold on to it for a future "feature" but usually they just fall off the to do list then of course if they do add something, they have to test everything to make sure nothing else got brokenI don't really care about the time it takes. "small suggestions" by us take up a fair bit of time to implement, thats the reality of changing something in millions of lines of code.
You must not be crafting that much if you haven’t run into this issue before. If you’re trying to craft one of everything for every class for some of the achievements, the current system is a huge annoyance. Interestingly, once you have entered the fishing pose at a fishing hole you can use Cordials and other consumables, but you cannot do this once you start crafting. This was a big annoyance during things like the Ishgard ranking seasons; having to exit the crafting menu to reapply food / syrup was frustrating, to say the least. However, even that pales in comparison to the annoyance of being unable to switch crafting classes and having to close out of the crafting window and then reopen it and reselect whatever items you wanted to create.I craft a fair bit, and I must do it much differently since I , well... to be honest, I "plan ahead" I make a number of the finished materials ahead of time so the raw materials are not taking up inventory space anywhere. thats amusing. "you must not be crafting much" thanks for the chuckle. You must not be crafting that much if you haven’t run into this issue before. if you mean I was only crafting around 8-10 hours daily for months on end, yeah, I guess I am only a minor crafter. as I said, I plan ahead, I know what I plan on crafting. This means I make the alkahests, the ingots, the cloth, leather etc ahead of time so I have a large supply. I prefer not to have the raw materials taking up space in my inventory, so I will go on harvesting trips, gather a bunch of the common things and turn them into usable material. Then I math out what I need for what I am making. because otherwise, if I have to access a retainer to pull something out, it chews into time for my good and tea.
if you are crafting that much, I am amazed you use such a disorganized 'seat of your pants' method to craft anything and am unsurprised you find it frustrating.
overall, I do not find that the way crafting is set up a "huge annoyance". as well, syrups last 1/2 hour, food if you are in an fc can be 45 minutes. so it is not like you are having to reapply every 10 minutes or something.
however, knowing how you craft now, I can see where someone who does what you do would find the system irritating as it obviously matches in no way your playstyle.
This has long been one of my pet peeves with crafting, and one of those little nitpicks I have with how the game works overall, another being the arbitrarily huge number of things simply sitting on a chair or bench locks you out of doing.
lol okay. I got 1st place multiple times during the Ishgard ranking seasons and was even the highest score among any class on a rather competitive server during one of the seasons. When you’re crafting that much, having to exit the crafting menu to stand up and take a syrup *is* an annoyance even if it’s only once every 15 minutes.thats amusing. Also, I have 10 retainers and they are literally full of items. There just unfortunately isn’t enough space in your inventory in this game to go about doing what you suggest if you’re trying to do some of the achievements without using the market board to buy materials. Perhaps you’re just making specific items, but again, if you’re trying to make one of everything or complete every levequest (as there are achievements in the game for this sort of thing), even if you use TeamCraft to plan it out, it still requires crafting a ton of different materials across a ton of different classes, and inventory space becomes an issue. It wouldn’t be an issue if you’re just crafting a bunch of the same thing to sell on the market board as you could more easily plan out what you need as you do, but that really isn’t an feasible option in many cases.
