1-Job only; Taboo or optional?

Can you still get by with just main-ing one job throughout the game without much repercussions? I am aware it limits versatility to switch on & off.

I feel the pressure somehow the “neccesity” to level multiple jobs but for me its far too much, especially how far I’ve grinded with gear wise & to redo the whole thing is mind boggling.

Anyone body else relates similarly?

The sims make it so it does not matter and if that Paladin is your main then trust me you are fine. The reason most of us do it is out of boredom or wanting to see the storyline of other jobs.

Yes, Paladin is my main and believe it or not I love my job profoundly so much. I did try out other jobs & got whm to 80 & just multi tasking isn’t for me.

I appreciate your input though & honestly had I not have a busy rl sorts I too would’ve been inclined to level others as such

It's all optional really. Optional jobs are there for different playstyles, as well as for people who don't want to just sit on one class all day when doing roulettes.

Also, just in case you were not aware, there's an armoury bonus you get for having one job at a higher level than others, combat wise. Other combat classes will get an EXP boost while leveling up, so they will level up faster than your first class. The biggest hurdle for leveling alt classes is usually 1-50. Plus if you unlock a job, you can go into Palace of the Dead to play it at level 50+ just to see if you actually like the skills you get. If not, then you don't have to play it.

At most I'd personally suggest one tank, one healer, one physical DPS, and one magical DPS because there's some lore quests you won't be able to see if you don't have those leveled. And if you do decide to go that route, level up scholar/summoner because you get two classes leveled up for the price of one.

But again, this is just a personal suggestion. You're free to level up anything you want. They got rid of the need to level up other classes for specific abilities (Like how warrior used to need gladiator at 24 just to learn provoke) so you can do just about everything combat wise on a single class

Nobody else pays your sub. Play as many or as few jobs as you want.

And if you max out one and then decide to try more, you get an exp bonus. So it's not like you can't change your mind later.

level 1 or allor any number in between really it makes no difference.

the only time it might limit your choices is in something like party finder groups.. if the dps slots are filled and dps is all you have for example. but honestly it makes no difference.

I've been playing since 1.0 and theres still jobs i havent even unlocked and some that are still sat at 50. from being levelled in 1.0.

you can run 2 maybe 3 pretty effectively but after that keeping things geared up gets tricky because everythiing is limited drops. so levelling to many jobs is kind of a waste.

I've not played a single job through out my time in FFXIV. But I have mained Tank since I started. Switched to DRK when it was released and have barely touched anything since.
So yes, it's doable to play with only 1 job if you feel like it.
The only restrictions are the same as in any other MMO where you play 1 class.

If you wanna craft and be able to gather raw materials those are jobs in their own however.
But maybe that's not a problem in that regard.

There is a notable quest you will miss out on if you don't have a tank/physical/magical/healer.

But on the other hand you will be dealing with a lot less inventory issues by not needing stuff for every role.
