Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Some of them aren't new people, but returning players as well. I myself ended up coming back after a six month hiatus after my laptop fried. Got something allot sturdier to play on now though.
Sprouts being everywhere is not a new thing, at all. For years I have walked around various worlds and seen them full of sprouts. When I've visited any world in the last 2 years since the World Visit System, I have seen city states full of sprouts. The game has been getting an abundance of new players for a very long time.
Took me about two mins using Google to figure out how to turn that off. So for the new players out there that don't particularly enjoy the little sprout next to your name, for whatever reason, here's your command:
/nastatus
Yeah, it's been strange(though welcome) seeing legit sprouts coming out of the goddamn woodwork by the bushel instead of them all being tele-hacking RMT bots.
It's like this every time before the release of an expansion where they do a large advertising campaign on Twitch and other means, to recruit new players, and the fact that FFXIV is F2P until the end of Heavensward, it works well.last weekend there was only a few sprouts here and there in the starting cities but tonight theres hundreds of sprouts in all 3 starting cities and the starting zones i havent seen this many new players running around in ages when did ff14 become so popular all a sudden
By the way... The skill level in dungeons and raids has really dropped since a week or two. In Nier raids, I see even more people who don't know the combat mechanics and die over and over.
Already before the level in raid alliance, is not terrible while it is relatively easy content, now the general level is terrible... And yes, the newbies of the first recruitment campaign arrived at level 80 and it shows everywhere...
Following up the previous post regarding new players in dungeons. Two things to peruse for players to help alleviate a bit of stress on others and make your life a lot easier:
1) Join Balance Discord - Rotations and min/maxing for each class/job
2) https://www.youtube.com/c/MTQcapture - End game guides regarding dungeons and raiding

The sprout communicates to other people in a dungeon that you are new. This changes their expectation of you - instead of expecting you to know what to do, they will be expecting you to get certain mechanics wrong that are common to get wrong on your first time. They will be expecting a lack of understanding of the game from you. This works really well so even without any communication, everyone in the dungeon gets what your experience level is and will be respectful of that.
