    Give Us More Housing Wards.

I'm kinda getting tired of the back and forth on these forums. It's all 'I want SE to take this away from other players' all the time. I don't want to argue about how to stop housing resellers, or about placard clicking or bots that have been created to make a quick buck off people desperate to get a house. I want SE to finally, definitively, put an end to this.

    Give us more housing wards.

Not two or three, as is the usual.

    A hundred. No, five hundred. A /thousand/.

Give us enough that you can remove all the current restrictions. People can own as many homes as they can have alts on a server and who cares, there's enough housing to go around. Hell give us two more subdivisions, so there's 4 divisions per ward.

I don't want to hear 'but but but server space yadda yadda'. If SE is determined to keep housing like this, then figure out a way to drop enough housing wards on us that it'll take a good long time for them to fill up.

Stop making players fight with each other for housing, SE. I'm tired of the divisions it's caused. Put out the fire, it's in your power to do so.

Don't just give us /more/ housing. Give us /enough/ housing.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

It'd be nice if it were this easy...
If they could simply do it by virtue of wanting to do it hard enough.

ok and do you want the sub cost of the game to increase like 10 fold? server space/maintenance costs ain't cheap!

I've guessed previously that 80 wards would cover everyone. With the population expansion, you're probably right that 100 is closer to the need. With Ishgard factored in 100 wards is 30,000 houses per server.
Right now we're slated for 7200 houses per server with Ishgard and 24 wards, or 9000 houses per server if we end up gaining +6 wards with 6.2 as we have in 4.2 and 5.35.**

I'd like to expand upon your idea a little if I may, if only because I worry that opening 100 wards would mean only the premium plots would be filled, and immediately premium plots would become unavailable in all 100 wards on most servers (looking at you, NA.) So my suggested tweak would be: weekly ward rollouts (stopping at 100). The +76 wards you suggest would take 19 months in total to add if the rate was 1 ward per week. If 3 wards were released weekly, it would take just 6 months to get to 100 wards. Ward creation days are some of the best days for first time buyers to get homes, because those people get to skip the timer and the damaging experience of camping. Allowing for more of these events to give opportunities to more of these first time buyers is the thinking behind my suggestion.

As another poster points out - 100 wards would probably hit us in the wallet. I'd be really curious to know what kind of money would support 100 wards, and if it would be best addressed through a larger sub or through mog station housing. Because someone's going to pay for it, and as the customer we are that someone.

Servers aren't cheap. That said, a datacenter tour where they show us how many servers are dedicated to what would be useful... if only to stop the "iT's So EaSy! JuSt AdD mOrE wArDs!" posts.

As someone working in IT, I can with confidence say OP have no idea what the cost would result in for SE and the development team's budget.

We will likely see more wards soon enough with the new server hardware able to be installed (which been delayed to to covid restrictions for traveling).

This will never happen for security reasons. SE don't own their datacenters and getting permit to go in to document and film, no way that will happen.

Would still be interesting to see if only to help put things into perspective. Besides, once you get into the area where the servers actually are, there's not much to see there other than racks of computers... it's all the stuff from the outside world getting to that point that shouldn't be recorded because of what you said.

Besides, seeing how a datacenter actually works is kinda neat =D

Oh, certainly! If you would be so kind as to happily donate thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars (marked for inflation and then exchanged to Japanese currency) for getting the wards.

What do you mean that's unreasonable to ask? SE will have to pay for extra servers, upgrade current ones with new hardware and maybe even create a new server hub, which could cost even more from Land-purchase and taxation on the property.

It's already been said multiple times that FFXIV servers are kind of at-capacity most of the time, so to add more things for the server to load At all times could be the straw that breaks the camels back. Not to mention SE outright coming out and saying that Housing isn't high on their priority list, as the story, dungeons, raids and such (The things that the majority of players.. Well, PLAY for.) are more important and get more resources than the 'optional' areas.

that isn't to say they aren't trying. The Firmament is proof they are trying to find a nice middle-ground with wanting their "neighborhood" style housing, while trying to add more wards to offer supply. Granted, it'll likely never surpass the Demand. But thats because everyone hates Apartments for pointless reasons, with the only real push-back is "well I want to crossbreed plants". Do you know how many people use this excuse, yet hardly ever (if at all) use their crop plots to crossbreed? It's a pretty darn small number. (On Mateus / Balmung that is..)

Get an apartment and wait until a House comes available. If that's not good enough for you, then take your entitlement elsewhere. I doubt I'm the only person that's tired of people coming in with outlandish demands, without doing their research as to why things are the way they are.

Is it? You just said it, it's a bunch of racks and noice AC units to cool off the server racks.
