Now that Asmongold has decided to play, anyone worried on the server he will choose?

WoW mostly looks at its playerbase with contempt and arrogance, and perhaps it's a byproduct of sitting at the top for so long. You have classic quotes like "you think you do, but you don't." when people were asking for WoW Classic. Or "don't you guys have phones?" when revealing their Diablo mobile game, even when people have had a lot of criticisms and request for Diablo III.

The FFXIV devs, for all their flaws, seem genuinely interested in making something the players will enjoy. WoW is all very corporate, and the old Blizzard charm has died somewhere along the way. While it's great that XIV is gaining so much traction, let's hope it doesn't go to their head and start going down the path Blizz did so many years ago.

As for Asmongold, even if he doesn't stick around after trying the game out, I think the amount of exposure FFXIV is gaining as a result is a positive thing. Those who don't resonate with the game will quickly leave, but I'm willing to bet there will be a lot of players who genuinely enjoy their time here.

SE went through a similar period as well, because they were not putting out the greatest stuff for a number of years prior and really didn't seem that different from Blizzard. FF XIV 1.0 I think was when things finally boiled over, since it was a culmination of years of thinking they were too big to fail. When you're sitting comfortably at the top of your craft for so long, I suppose it's only natural that one gets too comfortable, but it comes at a price. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later. Unfortunately, WoW has not reached its boiling point yet, though I do think it's just over the horizon. When things spiral downward, and they most certainly will, they will have two options...sink or swim. We will see if their pride and arrogance sinks them or not, because they will not rise back to the surface again if they don't swallow them both. Unfortunately, I think they will fail, even though I don't really want them to. But...you reap what you sow. It will be hard to feel bad about it.

Whichever world he ends up playing in it will definitely be beneffited in the Ultimate clear rate statistics, since veteran WoW players are used to Mythic difficulty level raids which are harder than Ultimates.

A normal player hears the news about him joining and is like:

A cultist is seeing the eighth umbral calamity, poverty and hunger ruling over Eorzea, the shroud going up in flames, Limsa sinking, their favorite characters getting stabbed dead by Asmongold fans, Yoshi-P being corrupted by darkness, etc, etc.

Worst thing that is gonna happen is your world becoming congested and a transfer out of it becoming free.

I doubt Asmon is going to be playing anytime soon. WoW is dropping their next content patch next week. If he plays it will probably be after the DC travel opens up anyway. Most the people I know who play both WoW and Ffxiv have finished the relics they wanted to do and are probably going to be playing WoW during the summer. Seriously though, why is everyone so concerned about this guy? He has a pretty specific audience. I doubt it’s going to impact much here.

He announced on a podcast he will on july 3rd

What's funny about this though is I feel like the FFXIV Devs are more willing to say, "No, we aren't doing that" or "No that's not the direction we want to go in" While the WoW devs speak in corporate speak and will never give an opinion either way.

If we welcome people who are mean jerks, what will happen to the great community FFXIV has? I welcome anyone who is willing to respond with kindness. For whatever reason Asmongold fans do not have that reputation.
