Go and try and kill some star mobs while you wait for CLL/Dal (or the duels if you are doing that way) or join a cluster farm group. Most of the people in those farms are there for the same reason you are and then you already have most of a party to go into CLL. Then you also on the side can get some gil for your troubles.

Except his argument was there's no point in doing them with that mettle drop because he's there for castrum, to do his relic.

And if your concern is relics, and not mettle, then the loss of mettle for dying should be very minimal in your mind. Once you're at rank 25 you can have 0 mettle forever and it'll have basically no effect on ability to progress relics.

Should it go up? Probably, but if speeding up castrum to do his relics faster, which'll get him right back into Zadnor where he'll get a million mettle for 2 CE's, isn't even an incentive for him, I'm unsure what would be.

Well, it isn't true that it is worth only participating in once. They require people to do it to get the fragments needed for zadnor like Martialist, Beast, Blood sucker, etc. It's still the primary source of preparation fragments, with the only major fragments I've found gatherable from the second half being support and care.

The reason they did this is that Zadnor has the system for getting honor marks, so if they buffed the mettle gain in the older content they are afraid that will result in everyone abandoning Zadnor for Southern Front (which is likely true). However, this is more so a problem involving Zadnor itself rather than southern front. To really fix the entire thing they'd need to add rewards for the platinum coins, such as the older field records like Lyon 1, and buff the mettle in the older content for people past the original max rank.

At the end of the day no content is going to last forever and people who have been playing since the start of shadowbringers are definitely feeling like this content should be dead and done. There's no one really saying "oh, yeah I totally want to run southern front and castrum again!" unless they are after some drop item or just need fragments, and the only reason those are needed is due to either Zadnor or an achievement. It's kind of like holding your long running player base hostage to the content because there's no other way to get them to do it, which is exactly what got people out of world of warcraft.
