Part of the reason for this is that they are not actually designing a lot of the hairstyles they released. Most of them came from a hairstyle design contest a long time ago and they are still just using ideas from it.Unfortunately i don’t see it happening anytime soon. SE seems to have had a fashion apocalypse and decided to added mainly feminine and androgynous hairstyles this expansion and said screw the males. It’s bad enough a lot of glams are feminine but now the hairstyles are too and it’s just... why even bother lmao.

Yep, midlander faces and fluidity with highlander musculature would be ideal. One of the biggest frustrations with character creator was I always wanted to make a highlander but the faces were far too Neanderthal like for my taste. This forum definitely has a problem with nitpicking sometimes but I dont think it's insanely unreasonable to wish for a natural, healthy, realistic medium between mid and highlander.
I 100% get the OP's complaint, it's something I held against FFXIV for a very long time. And I'll admit; I kind of think the Hrothgar wound up being "a swing and a miss", because they're essentially just "Roegadyn but cats". Being leaner and more proportionately muscled like Kimahri from FFX, I think they'd have done a great job of offering that "something between a Highlander and a Roegadyn". To me, even the Roegadyn tend to come off as "big ol' teddy bears" more than genuinely intimidating.
But also, I say as someone who originally came from WoW, it took me a while to "get" the aesthetic of FFXIV. In WoW (and really a lot of western games), you always want your character to be "the biggest, baddest dude in the room". FFXIV's art style doesn't really favor that, so much as a lot of beautiful, intricately-detailed designs. So even if you were able to bring over a WoW-style Human or Orc, it would still be a struggle to get them to look the same, because very little clothing/armor options match that aesthetic, either.
I still think "something between Highlanders and Roegadyn" would benefit the game. But with both the Au Ra and Hrothgar being added, I would probably say the next race we "need" is something between Lalafel and Miqo'te.

While I am always for more customization options, it would be easier to take your thread seriously if you actually got the names right. You mentioned lowlander and midlander when it's midlander and highlander. It comes off as you either not taking the time to properly look at them and thus remember the names, or as this being a troll thread.

It'd be really nice if we could at least get all of the facial hair options for a race on every face, but the options are tied to face type, which is a real downer for me.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore

I always found this extremely disappointing. When I first fantasia’d to Highlander, I was hoping I can use face 2 with face 4’s beard. But nayy, they have different set of beard which… doesn’t looks that bad but not 100% fits my desired-imagination.
Here’s the thing. I get that, but they obviously have to review them. They know what’s deemed feminine/androgynous. What they should’ve done instead was say, we’ll pick one feminine hairstyle and one masculine hairstyle. It may not be the most masculine hairstyle cuz yknow, Japan, but it would be better than the weird bows, ribbons, tails explosion we’ve gotten this expansion.
I just want my lady Au Ra to be tall like the men. There's no reason for her to be so tiny.
I will never forgive SE for making Au Ra women so tiny compared to the men.
