Have you ever been kicked for not having "good enough" gear?

I had just finished up a Hell's Lid dungeon run. I was running the dungeon in order to get better gear, at the time I had the full RDM antiquated gear you get from the level 70 quest. About a quarter of the way through the dungeon the Tank and Healer vote kicked the BLM. I asked why and got no response and then they ended up vote kicking me immediately afterwards. I was really just confused as to why, had the BLM and I done something wrong I would have wanted to know so I could improve myself.

Ended up queuing again and ended up somehow running into the same Healer and Tank (I guess they couldn't get a back fill so they ended up leaving and requeuing, since we were at the start of the dungeon)

I asked them why I was kicked last time and it turns out it was my gear that they were upset about. I mean, I don't really get it. I had average IL of 331 in a 310 IL dungeon. The Tank demanded that I have Scaeven gear, despite me having the full Jewelry set. (I had had decided to spend my poetics on the jewelry since I knew that I would be getting the antiquated gear soon) Like yea, my belt was a slightly underleveled for the dungeon but that was the whole point of me running the dungeon in the first place, to get a replacement.

As far as I'm aware as long as you're at the IL for the dungeon you're fine. I mean the game let's you queue for that dungeon for a reason? Is there something I'm not understanding with that aspect of the game? Am I able to report players for kicking for this reason? It doesn't seem like a valid reason to vote kick someone at all.

EDIT: It was explained to me why, due to a misunderstanding on my part of the average item level system. It has been cleared up now.

First weapon over everything and second left side over right side. I have kicked people for crap gear before. Mostly it's been due to them being a tank or healer. Almost never for a dps. Unless I'm doing something that has a dps check and we're not clearing it and the only visible thing you can see is that someone hasn't upgraded their stuff since they freshly got to that level cap. The 60/70/80 job gear will always be lower ilv than the highest tome gear you can buy.

Also just because you meet the min ilv in old stuff doesn't mean you should run things at that ilv. The closer you are to said min means the more mp the healer will have to use to heal you as you'll take more damage. Even if you don't stand in every aoe. It also affects your damage output. Hell's Lid is also currently one of the fastest ways to complete one of the last steps of the current relic so a lot of level 80s are wanting to speed run it. The more runs they can get done the quicker they can finish that step.

The short answer to OP's question is, your undergeared character is preventing people from running any Dungeon on Explorer Mode (easier than very easy difficulty). And since kicking party members is quicker than using the ingame chat or making adustments on the fly (so that they can show that theyre actually worthy of their Fairy Godparents crown next to their name), that is pretty much the expected result.

What you can do however, is report those fellas, since doing so is clearly a abuse of its original function (People usually just accept the kick vote either way, even if you did nothing wrong).

Say you have i400 in everything while you're weapon is i355, you'll do substantially lower damage than you should despite being well over the ilvl requirement for most Stormblood content. You should always prioritize weapon > body > legs > Head/Gloves/Feet > Belt/right side. With that said, you certainly don't need full Augmented Scaeven. So the kick was likely unwarranted from the start.

Another gear tip. If you opt to purchase crafted stuff, avoid Normal quality entirely. It's completely worthless as the ilvl is a direct lie.

Reporting will get you nowhere because kicks fall under the "difference of playstyle" mantra GMs follow. You can literally kick for any reason provided you aren't vocal about it in chat.

Ah okay, well thank you for explaining it. If they told me that I would have just willing left. I always assumed it was just based on the average item level since the game lets you queue for it. If people are speed running it I'll just avoid playing RDM until I get more poetics for the rest of the Scaeven gear then.

Having undergeared players slows things down. The game may let you queue but does not mean players have to sit around and take it. You are not entitled to their time.

Yes, you have the bare minimum item level for the dungeon, so technically it let you queue. People probably get away with it all the time. Better gear means enemies quicker though.

They are correct to say it's "easy" to get better gear.

You can buy item level 385 gear from Kugane's market area.

You can buy high-quality 385 gear from the market board.

You can buy item level 400 gear with poetic tomestones from the blue icon NPC next to the aetheryte at Kugane.

They most likely want the enemies to die fast, so getting this gear and doing AoE (Verthunder II/Veraero II into Impact) on multiple targets respects their time.
