I feel like it's the opposite. Have met only couple of of under aged people here. Well talked to at least. Maybe random or I'm drawn to more mature people.I mean there's nothing surprising about any of this. WoW playerbase leans more towards people on their 30s-40s whereas FFXIV's demographic consists mostly of kids and teens, and kids and teens love to engage in "Team Jacob vs Team Edward" arguments that the rest of the world simply don't care about.
In my experience people are between 26-40 here.
I mean i could list a whole set of things, but this isn’t really the thread for it. The only reason i typically respond like that is if someone is praising 14 in relation to WoW when both aren’t really that different, it’s just different types of communities that will tolerate more/less from the devs.
Also don't take my replies the wrong way, as I am just curious. OR let me put it this way, we disagreed on a few things but I never meant any disrespect or anything. Honestly it's helpful to learn from different views and hope me replying isn't getting on your nerves. On that front I wish there was a PC cause I want to know what you'll put on that list.I mean i could list a whole set of things, but this isn’t really the thread for it. Nah i didn’t take it in any bad way. I know looking at my posts i can seem like a major negative nancy. Im just very blunt with my critiques. Also don't take my replies the wrong way, as I am just curious. lol.
I'm the same in real life. Tho on here I must look like thehuggy type. I guess on that front as far as XIV goes I can be? They just haven't pissed me off yet. But I'll NEVER forget Scottzone, Or how they fucked up the ONE chance they could've tried to fix housing, Or why they haven't added instant ones yet. - ITS LITERALLY IN YOUR DNA WITH APTS SE!!!!- The game being super dull on colors on PS4 PRO. The fact we don't have better tools to teach players how to play.... I got a list too. Trust me... XIV is not perfect. I just think it's in a better state then WoW from what I've seen. Least we don't have a " Do you not have phones." Yet. Lets hope we NEVER get that.
iirc the old ff reboots they’re coming out with are for mobile xDlol.

That, plus Yoshi is under the impression that 2nd gen MMOs wouldn't appeal to a younger audience. E.g. here. I genuinely find some of his conclusions there bizarre, for lack of a better word. This one was a bit better fleshed out in getting his thoughts across (at least it's closer at identifying what the issue is, rather than it being age-related, specifically), but similar message - they don't seem to be too optimistic about 2nd gen MMOs (as he puts it) as a market, at least not enough to bring another product to it beyond "perfecting" XIV; recently he expressed hope for a 10 year or so lifespan for it, so I suppose they see it as a steady but not overly exciting source of income. Maybe at the root of it is what you mention - if they were to bring a new one to market, it would have a content dearth, hence readily replayable content with low time commitment barriers to access would make sense instead of that and that's the attraction he sees in a lobby game. I'd like to see an action-based MMO from them if it incorporated some of the combat mechanics we've seen in their more recent games, like 7R or yes, even the Kill Chaos TM's demo...It's nearly impossible to break into the MMO Market. The content/resource snowballing means it'll be basically impossible for a new MMORPG to offer even a fraction of what an established MMO like WoW can. Then we have the sub model and time investment; which means people will only play 1 MMO at a time, and will be very reluctant to leave whichever MMO they've invested the most time and money into.
It's a weird landscape that makes real competition very rare. It's why the genre has been stilted for so long with the same few dated games controlling the market.
I'm keen to see how BP is going to do in Japan. Very different type of MMO, and one I am open to trying out.
Well said. I used to love WoW, but I left it before it festered into a toxic "relationship" (and will treat XIV similarly depending on how I like 6.0 - same with any MMO or other game.) I'd still go back if there was a big shift in thinking and direction, but alas, not going to happen. Both games have a lot of problems, but for many, WoW's problems are gamebreaking where Blizzard take things that work perfectly well or are a lot of fun and destroy them while doubling down on and refusing to change the things players hate, while FF14's problems are just annoyances, some large, but the game as a whole remains enjoyable.
WoW's team also have an extremely poor history with PR and arrogance. They tend to showcase a "we know best" attitude while ff14's devs give the impression of caring about feedback.
Overall it leads to resentment. People loved WoW. Personally I feel it used to be the better game compared to ff14. Having a dislikable team completely wreck something you loved, sit back with a smug attitude and expect you to pay them for it is naturally going to generate bad feelings.
But you're right there's no amazing mmo on the market right now. There's definitely a good opportunity for competition.

If nothing else, it'd be interesting to learn more about what Yoshi-P likes about WoW. Personally I'm hoping that he's referring to the golden era of WoW which also coincides with the height of WoW's success. It wasn't until Cataclysm that I started to lose interest in the game but at the time there just wasn't a viable alternative option on the market that could hold my interest and appeal to me. Wildstar came close - and had the best housing system I've seen in an MMO to this very day. I also loved the aesthetics of the Dominion. Alas, the game itself ended up going to way of the dodo...
I just hope FFXIV doesn't go too far off the rails but also dares to be a bit bolder and confident in its own potential. Especially where it's story is concerned.
