    Flying Mount Takeoff Option

    Steps:
When jumping off from a high point, while in the process of mounting up (slidecasting mount up basically while walking off a ledge), you will fall down to the ground when the option is set to "Auto: Take off on jump".
If you set it on "Manual: Take off on double jump" you can still start flying midair, which is way nicer, you aren't forced to drop uncontrollable down and drop to 1HP then.

It doesn't matter if its gamepad or keyboard. PC/Console.

Both options should allow to initiate flying.

I feel this is working as intended. Because you're technically jumping before it registers that you are actually on a mount.

Yes it's because you haven't actually mounted up yet. I'm going to guess that the second option performs a check that allows you to fly while already in the air from jumping, while the first option can only initiate flight when initially entering the air on a mount.

The second option also lets you attain flight if you're already in the air. It's like toramorigan said, the game just hasn't registered they're on a mount yet if they're slide casting off a ledge.

The difference between the options is that one replaces the jump button with taking off, and the other maintains the jump function and you take off by jumping again in the air. The first setting doesn't prevent you from flying at any time you nornally could or change takeoff rules beyond simply replacing the jump function.

Normal expected behaviour would be: You can fly with your flying mounts whenever you are mounted in a flying zone.
Actual behavior is: You fall down to the ground and take dmg or possibly even die?
    Falling =/ jumping
You can argue about definition of a bug I guess. I bet you would also argue that it is intended that flying up straight is slower than flying up diagonally in circles.

Idc if it's because of their code mess, they can register jump inputs during a fall, it's not a problem at other points in the game. They just blocked it out for some reason for that mount setting, and didn't consider this exception. It's probably a one line change.

Would be a smoother game experience

Wait... does the problem happen even when you don't move off a cliff by slide casting?

No. Then you just stay in air right there straight away.

You could just press dismount button while being high up, you start falling straight down with the mount too, but hey, you can start flying again. It is definitely not an issue of inputs not being able to be registered.

But whatever, I feel like people try to explain why it behaves like it does and defend this faulty mechanism and can't imagine any change because it is an older setting.

I tried this out for interest sake and can't slidecast into a jump to takeoff with the auto setting. It just performs a regular jump when you mount midair, as expected. Got to press jump again to take off.

Maybe they could combine auto to include manual's controls and register a jump press to initiate flight. Manual seems to detect if you are falling while mounted, even of you slidecast off a cliff.

Or just use manual. It's a QoL thing not a bug.
