I dont think anyones denying that. the point is that as fast as new players come in. existing ones are getting bored and leaving.. which is why the population isnt growing despite all the new players.Zepla and other creators have confirmed they are seeing a wave of new people in their own analytics on Youtube and Twitch. There is definitely a wave and I doubt it is accidental it happened after Belluar out that video slamming Blizzard for treating WoW like a paid beta test.
Yoshi P threw wide the gates with the lvl 60 free trial.
and if all those new players coming in are on the free to play trial up to 60. and all the ones leaving are paying subscribers who got bored that results in significantly less revenue for SE.
though in reality a good portion of those leaving are probably in the trial as well so no real revenue loss from those but it'd be a difficult thing to quantify.
but if the thread title was even remotely accurate then the question becomes why isn't the population growing if its really that popular and all these new people are coming in?
and the answer is becase existing ones are getting bored and leaving just as quickly. perhaps actually slightly faster if you consider the census sweeps show a slow decline in population.
It's not to unlike how they publish numbers and say ffxiv has 15 million players.. it doesnt it just means 15 million people have played the game at some point. even if they got bored after 30 minutes and uninstalled. its the same thing many f2p games do. 50 million downloads on the google play store.. yet you'd typically find 49 million of those uninstalled it within 10 mins because there were too many ads or something
Or another example think of SE as that company thats always hiring and always has vacancies listed. but despite always hiring it's not growing or exapanding. so then you get a job there and in a couple of months realise why its always hiring because its a terrible place and the staff turnover rate is insane..

LMAO OP'S MEDALS GOT DELETED
I actually think the population overall is growing atm, even in a content lull. Several servers across all three NA data centers are closed for new character creation during peak play time, and it's been like that for weeks now? It feels really nice for the game to be populated even at this time![]()
Imagine what it will be like in five months when Endwalker arrives. The queues will be incredible.I actually think the population overall is growing atm, even in a content lull. This content lul is pretty freaking big aswell we have 5 months until EW 5 months ago 5.4 was still fresh.
For you, it is a content lul, for me it is 8 years worth of quests, instances and raids.
So on the point about population numbers:
Final Fantasy 14 hit a concurrent player count of 47,542 in the last 24 hours, according to SteamDB. That beats its previous record of 41,200, which it set in June of 2020 as players returned for the Shadowbringers expansion (numbers courtesy of SteamDB). The thing is, this time those players aren't here because of any new additions to Final Fantasy 14. Endwalker won't be out until November. They mostly seem to be disgruntled World of Warcraft players who've followed popular WoW streamers like Asmongold, taking up another MMO while WoW is in a lull.
That peak in player numbers came a day after Asmongold began streaming it to over two million followers. He's not alone, with CohhCarnage recently picking up it up as well. Their viewers, and those of every WoW streamer who grew dissatisfied during the 218-day wait for the Chains of Domination update, have been getting a taste of the best MMO you can play in 2021. So far, they seem to like it.
In the past, all it's taken for Blizzard to win back WoW players is to knock it out of the park with the next update or expansion. Maybe that'll happen again, or maybe FF14 has what it takes to hold onto these new players. I've been reliably informed that it's a critically acclaimed MMORPG with a free trial up to level 60 including the Heavenward expansion.
