Yeah, that's some nice art and very much what I'd like to be able to play in this game.
Either through the addition of Pureblood Garleans and/or an overhaul of the character customisation system.
I strongly feel this is less about wanting to play a Garlean for being a Garlean and more about wanting better looking Hyurs
It's selfish because if you're going to be this way about race then why not everything else? As we all know we should only see one Whm, Sch, Drg ect. Not everyone would be the chef that bested the Chef's Bane twice let alone after 2.55 happened. Where do you draw the line? If we were to apply this type of thought to the whole game then how do you decide who on your server gets to be the only person for those spots?I dont really see how its selfish? If anything the selfish thing is people trying to turn down people's hopes of a garlean race of sub race on the basis of lore, despite the lore constantly being changed or not making sense for many things. Your point of "only happens because the game has to allow everyone to play what they want to play," could literally be applied to the garlean argument. I really dont know how it's selfish to use other players' character as examples unless you for some reason take it as some kind of personal attack or something, in which case...idk what to say. Dont be so sensitive.
This would be like if someone wanted to be able to play as a Klingon in a Star Trek game that happened before the Federation and the Kilingons made peace.
well those features are more distinct than a forehead eye, ehe.Au ra playable race? So Hyur with horns and a tail?
Viera playable race? So Hyur with rabbit ears?
Miqote playable race? So Hyur with cat ears and a tail?
I can go on if you want me to seeing as how 75% of the playable races in this game are just humans with cosplay ears and tails glued on with nothing else of distinguishability.
It's hilariously laughable how vehemently against this some people are. I care not either way but the rancor is laughable nonetheless when you have other larger more jarring lore and immersion breaking things occurring on a daily basis.
and realistically i dont really care what other races can be or will be, as we arent getting any more of them after female hrothgar.
its good to dream tho.
That's part of it, though I quite like the lore and background that a Pureblood Garlean brings to the table. Their story and circumstances have a lot of similarities to the Highborne and Blood Elves of World of Warcraft - which I liked a lot when I played both over there.
The most popular races in most RPG's are typically humans and elves, at least when they're designed in a way that isn't considered to be lacking or weirdly proportioned.
Agreed. Given that the game has been recently confirmed to be supported for at least another decade, there's ample opportunity to implement both. Especially since the longer the game goes on the more the development team will need to do in order to keep things fresh and exciting.
Rather than create a new thread, I'm going to give this a gentle nudge since there's new lore brought to light that further adds weight to the idea of a playable Garlean Pureblood in the form of the Reaper job for Endwalker.
Namely that the job came to exist as a result of Pureblood Garleans making pacts with Voidsent to survive after being cruelly driven from their original homeland and into the bleak frozen wasteland of Northern Ilsabard. Given that the Warrior of Light will also be making pacts with Voidsent if they pick up the Reaper job...well, it further erodes at least some of the proposed opposition.
Once again I'm here to speak my support.Rather than create a new thread, I'm going to give this a gentle nudge since there's new lore brought to light that further adds weight to the idea of a playable Garlean Pureblood in the form of the Reaper job for Endwalker.

Also make the reaper mentor a pureblood Garlean while we're at it. As unlikely as that might be, seeing as the starting area for the job is in Ul'dah. But hey, we already have defectors in the game so why not add another one.
That still doesn’t counter my opinions against the race. I never said that it was just the lore holding them back from being playable. The lore can be whatever. But Garleans are still the main villains through most of the game and there’s no reasonable way to play one in the MSQ without pretending that everything is OK because you’re special and a WoL, even before you’re outed as one at the end of ARR, so no one would want to hurt you.
Then there’s the fact that a race that can be completely replicated by added a head item to the game is not an interesting race to play. If you want to play a Garlean for RP reasons, there’s nothing stopping you from just saying you’re a Garlean to other RPers.
Besides all that, during the live letter they said if they added a new race again, it would be lizardmen. But they finished that statement by saying they don’t even want to think about new races anymore.
