And I thought the trolls were just in general discussion. They're in housing too?! Obvious bait where is my fish picture.

Do we need gil sinks? I mean, sure I guess. But they should come in other forms. Maybe make crafting items purchasable with gil instead of tomes or scrips. They add lots of new things but put them behind a token currency instead of gil. They even removed gil from the beast tribe quest items and put them behind their own tribal tokens. Remember 200k for a mount? Yeah they had a way to remove gil and they changed it to a token. If they wanted an actual gil sink they could have it quite easily in other venues.
The problem with to much gil in the economy is that it tends to cause out of control inflation (which is something that has been observed in WoW with the costs of things reaching up into the tens of thousands of gold for vendor items while in Vanilla 10g was considered a good chunk of change) or the gil currency eventually becomes meaningless (which it arguably already is) as MMO economies are more closer to a stream of gil entering and exiting the economy rather than a closed system like the real world with a finite supply of money that is recirculated amongst the participants.

There are many MMOs that have a rent system, and FFXIV being more in line with the other MMOs in this regard would actually be a good thing as it would help to pull gil from the economy as there are far too many players that easily have over 100M gil, if not far more than that.

You are trying to go left and right at the same time. You are not going to touch the wealthy players in this game with any reasonable amount of rent end of story.

Note: Taking advice from a players alt, is like taking advice from a voice in a dark room. Criticism is a two way street remember that!!

If it were the only gil sink in the game, you'd be correct. However, it can still be an effective one without doing that as it's one of many (like the two mounts that cost 25M and 50M each)

If you intend this as a gil sink and you stand by your 10k/week, it would be more effective to remove the first reward in the weekly questlog (the one that grants you 10k if you complete 5 tasks in the questlog, something most people will probably accomplish by accident alone). That way even people who dont own an apartment would contribute by generating 10k/week less.

Then make land have rent if you want a gil sink.

I just picked an arbitrary amount to get the conversation going, what do you think it should be?
