Correction, it would contribute to the already out of hand rmt. We already have no gil sinks and rmt are out of control. Give us something that we need to pay for every week, that is as highly sought after as housing, which should be available to all who want it, then you are just making two situations worse for the player population.
Do we need gil sinks? I mean, sure I guess. But they should come in other forms. Maybe make crafting items purchasable with gil instead of tomes or scrips. They add lots of new things but put them behind a token currency instead of gil. They even removed gil from the beast tribe quest items and put them behind their own tribal tokens. Remember 200k for a mount? Yeah they had a way to remove gil and they changed it to a token. If they wanted an actual gil sink they could have it quite easily in other venues.
Like I stated earlier, housing in ffxiv is its own piece of content and locking that behind a paywall that is not just a general sub and a base purchase amount is just a bad idea and does nothing to solve the housing crisis in the long run. You are just needlessly punishing players.
