To be fair to the OP there should have been a message somewhere in the actual game.

And the notices before didn't say you could turn in tomes after the period, either. They also led you to the official website to get full details. They don't put every single thing that's in a patch into the login announcement. That's why they make informative websites to outline all the important things for players to know and they have the login message as a notification/reminder to go look there.
To be fair, I'd say at least half the people lecturing about "take responsibility, your fault" probably paid no attention to the fine print either and just happened to catch the reminder thread posted here or someone mentioning it in-game.
That said, some of the attitudes are terrible. It was in the small print. A second chance would be nice, but politely requesting it will get you a lot further than outraged demands.

Dunno about anyone else, but I've been aware of the fact the tomes would be useless after the event cut-off basically since it was announced.
Because I actually know how to read, which is more than can be said for a good majority of the people whining that they "had no warning" about this.
Would it be nice for the moogle to have remained for a little while after the event was officially over? Sure. But that would not solve the issue, as there will always be someone who forgot or didn't read or didn't know (because they didn't read) - and then they'll complain all over again. Kinda like the late-comers who can't keep up with Hunt trains.
It really is up to people to take some responsibility and inform themselves or be aware. That really is not asking for as much as some people seem to think it is.
Except there was nothing "sneaky" about it. If people took the time to read they would know. SE has no obligation to spoon feed people too lazy to read a login message, let alone anything else. You certainly could say that it's their own fault for not following the link and carefully checking for the single line of fine print that mentions it. Doesn't change the fact that it was a sneaky consumer-unfriendly thing for them to do. Like I said, there was no good to come out of changing things like this, only disappointment.
