Main jobs ?
Good at it and have fun with it, I guess.
Some jobs, you might be good at it but don't have fun with it.
In most cases, Gearing up priority always goes to main job first, no ?

The job I play for Savage is my "main" in that I put all my gear upgrades on it, but I play all the jobs to some extent because it helps me be a better team player. Yesterday when I was spamming Halicarassis for books, I went through every single job except BLU, just to break up the monotony. (I discovered I had forgotten how to red mage.) Since it was 70 content, it didn't matter that only one of my jobs was BiS - everything else was geared enough, and the fight was simple enough that my slightly imperfect rotations didn't matter.

I just don't vibe with most of the classes in the game tbh. I've never been big on tanking, healing in this game feels kinda clunky to me (especially in pvp, it feels somehow both broken and also terrible), and having to deal with positionals made melee irritating enough that I avoided it like a plague for the longest time.
I mained bard from HW up through to ShB because I like archers, I like mobility, and I like being able to offer some support, but then dancer came out and was a whole lot more fun. Unfortunately fun as it is, actually getting good at performing as dancer didn't click, it felt like I was staring at my bars too much for too little return, so I tried bard again and it just. Does not click with me anymore. It hasn't changed a ton, but something about it just isn't it.
So I basically said screw it, I'll give nin a shot because at least if I can get decent at it I'll still probably do better than on any ranged physical right now lmao. Positionals are still annoying but at least the rest of the class is pretty fun (and the sick flips all of our abilities have are too). What I do in Endwalker is gonna depend on how the classes change. If reaper is fun, I'll probably play that, if not then I'll probably just stick with ninja unless they make some really nice changes to bard or dancer.
I don't have a "main", but I have 2-3 jobs that is my top go-to for endgame and gearing. I play whatever I feel/needed for the group.
I been summoner since the beginning and have leveled all other jobs to 80. I do enjoy all but I'm determined on focusing on summoner (I'm well used to the new job mechanics and feels simple, believe it or not!) plus I LOVE jobs/classes with pets for the extra fun.

This isn't a game that's advised to just stick to one. Being flexible is good.
(Also if you only play one job you'll quickly run out of stuff to do since there's so little to do at max level, but that's another discussion.)

It's a player vs character thing for me. I love playing most of the jobs when I want to mix things up, but my character as I see her in my head is a Warrior. Every now and then I play with the idea of going Gunbreaker or Dark Knight for the MSQ, but I always end up coming back to the axe when it comes time for story stuff.

Easy, I've never been an alt person. Always playing on one character in any MMO.
Ofc I can make an alt or two to just fool around in. But that mostly lasts for half an hour at most.
I actually thought when I started FFXIV that "Since 1 character can do antyhing, maybe I can finally start playing more roles and not go with just one".
But nah.. I've mained tank ever since I started.
And played DRK since Heavensward.
And that's because if possible I play a class with a darker theme.
With Reaper on the horizon I will level that one up as well. So in the future I might actually have 2 jobs to switch between when I feel like it.

I learned after all the healer changes that I will never main a healer again. Now I just main a dnc and rdm.
If i were to choose my main right now, i can't choose one so it's 3 jobs : GNB, DRK and WAR since i wanted to tank during shb. I think having more than 1 main in the same role is very practical if you like to play savage/extreme and keeps things little more fresh. I even play PLD sometimes.
As dps i play drg and ninja the most but only on easier difficulties. Even if reaper becomes my new main, i will play drg too.
So i don't think you have to keep 1 job tbh, it's great to change a little bit sometimes. Ofc it depends on what content you do and how you do it, in a static you can't always change what you play. I don't have a static but if i had one, i would avoid playing with my static job as mutch as possible outside of it if it gets boring.
