I just don`t like to relearn stuff. I just choose one Job and try to play it really well. If I change my Job to ofter I always have the feeling I have to relearn stuff and forget how I play my other Jobs. So I just stick to one because I have the feeling that just after a few weeks of playing another Job I forget how to play my old one.

I found myself an AST main purely because those I would play with were all dps or tank and hated to heal! I didn't mind to fill the healer spot or give a fast que, AST in SB was by far my fave healer, it still is but I want my old cards back damn it... I miss time dilation and having a stun..
When I was new I went Summoner because I always love pet classes, I love love love bahamut! But to me it feels like he hits like a wet noodle. I want those akh morns to feel impactful and they just don't.
I also love the Monk, esp in SB, I really took the time to master the job in ShB however as I came into the game right at the end of SB.
Lastly, DRK was my fave tank in SB and I was pretty gutted what they did to it and tanks in general in ShB. Honestly, the job changes overall made the start of the expansion feel really bad for me as I had just gotten used to and enjoying the jobs as they were then SE took a bat to the mechanics of them and they still do make things slower which I am really really hating.

I hope they add back the speed to the jobs they took it away from but I doubt they will. Ast feels far slower now with the changes they made, same for DRK. I hate it.

I want to heal. WHM makes me sleep and SCH is too clunky. AST is kind of a no-brainer then. The VFX help a lot too.

I've played a lot of MMOs over the years, and my style is to pick one character and stick with it; I don't play alts. In FF14, that manifests as only really playing one job. I've leveled a few others, but NIN is my main and what I play 99% of the time. (What's weird about that for me is that I almost always main healer in MMOs, but I don't like FF14 healing and I love NIN.)

I'm not opposed to switching mains, though do so very rarely (or not at all over several years playing an MMO). What I don't do is alt.

Will I main NIN in Endwalker? Almost certainly.

Well for me it boils down to a few factors: I'm bad at tanking, and even worse at healing. So I stick to DPS jobs. Out of the DPS jobs, I stick to melee because I've always mained melee and find it easier to react to mechanics while in melee range. And out of the melee DPS jobs, I get easily bored playing DRG, SAM, and NIN. So therefore my main is a monk. Monk just clicks with me and I enjoy it the most over every other job.

The last time I really subscribed to having a main was the start of Heavensward. I was a WAR and DRG main. I had an alt for WAR and DRG on my main, so that I could experience current raiding/gear both jobs at a relatively similar pace. But I really loved Ninja when it first came out in 2.3 or whatever, too. I started raiding on it in FCoB. I kept up with its rotation knowledge in HW.

I dabbled in SCH, and ARR PLD was so easy a caveman could do it. I also played Monk extensively at first in Second Coil, due to people not wanting to double or triple up on same DPS. Things like Turn 8 and Turn 9, I'd swap from WAR to MNK. I've always found MNK to be very simple, as unlike the original 2.0 version of DRG, you didn't have to repeat a weaponskill if you missed the positional in order to get the effect. And no jump lock.

Basically I set myself up to be flexible, so that I could fit the demands of any raid group before I found a couple to settle in. By the end of Heavensward I was in love with DRK, MCH, and NIN so completely that come Stormblood I leveled DRK on one character first, and MCH on the other. Then SAM's raw power got my attention, and I did a buncha PUG raiding on that, as one character had lost a static. Then my friend asked me to bring NIN to his morning time mainly EU group, so I reluctantly did and wound up NIN main on that character for the rest of Stormblood.

SHB I raided on DRK and MNK first. Then went on hiatus and stopped using my alt character completely. After I was done with hiatus, my old raid group needed a caster, so I came back on SMN. Which I'd actually wanted to do, due to Phoenix, but my raid leader wanted me to be a melee. Oddly, it was the first time that I didn't want to be a melee.

I've been playing since August 2013, and as of the current date I've given up on having a hard main. I still generally prefer tank or melee, and I tend to always make the DRG relic with each iteration of relic. Even if it's FUGLY (lookin' at you, Daboya Eureka). I find myself mostly playing tank for queue times. SAM or DRG, occasionally NIN for 24 man. WHM, sometimes AST, rarely SCH if I feel like healing.

The only job I've never vibed with well is Black Mage. I can play it decently, but my head is not good at movement optimization nor caster greed (I do like the Fire/Blizz system especially with Despair which is basically Tornado Kick's concept done right). I also hate MNK currently, because the, "fix" broke it worse off than it was, less fun with no pay off.

If you play the game long enough branching out, then the word main will lose most of its meaning for you, I believe.

I'm a simple person. I love healing so I heal. Sch is the most fun healer I ever played to the point that I'm not super hype for sage. I am looking forward to it, I'm just seriously doubting I would enjoy it more than sch.

I usually main WHM and AST for nearly everything. For one I like healing even as dull as it is now. Plus, I don't trust other healers to do things right so it's just kind of my calling.

But I do think that I have "mains" in each role rather than something I stick with.

So healers is the aforementioned, I personally hate how clunky SCH feels especially the fairy so I don't play it as much. But I used to play it during SB and just lose touch with it during Shb. An omnihealer you could say.

Tanks, I admit are played less but they feel too slow and positions bosses isn't particular interesting. But when I do I play GNB. Animations are nice and the fast-paced nature is what sells it for me.

Melee, SAM because it flows nicely and pretty. But I also play DRG recently which is satisfying for the most part.

Caster, RDM as I hate how disjointed SMN feels and BLM just didn't click for me.

Ranged, DNC although a bit dull at times is fun for the most part. I started off the raid tier in Shb as a MCH and it was nice to see high numbers on it but sometimes I need a break from high APM jobs (like AST sometimes).

I haven't really changed my mains on healers since I play them for the aesthetic. The other roles just depend on how bad the changes go.

Machinist and probably half of the forum knows at this point.

I stick to a job for their aesthetic and I liked Machinist in HW. No other jobs could give me the same feeling and I felt useful to my team.
I sticked to it during SB because I played the job for the whole HW. Let's put it simply, that was the worst expansion and I hated raiding in that time. Always doing the same garbage opener and playing with those weird Flamethrower ticks.
I actually learned to play Samurai during SB but remained a MCH for savage content, I still felt useful to the team. Even if everyone prefered a BRD.

Then came ShB. Yes the rework is good but I won't stop saying it's half-baked. (But half-baked good)
At this point, I don't feel useful to the team anymore and drifted more and more to GNB/SAM but I still love the aesthetic of MCH. Plus I endured Stormblood for 2 years, what's Shadowbringers compared to it?

Yeah, in short, aesthetic, what resonates the most with my character.
