How do you stick to your main job?

Hi, this is my first post here, so I thought I'd ask about something that plagues me the most in the game.

I've been playing since 2014, sometime after 2.3 and before 2.4. Summoner was my main in ARR due to the overall aesthetic and gameplay of the job, I loved it. When HW came, I was obsessed with Machinist, because a gun job was a huge want of mine. Issue was, was that it was weak and needed balancing. Despite that, I stuck with it purely because I loved it as a job. Summoner was not an option to retreat to at the time, because it became a rather clunky job to play optimally (MCH kind of was as well, but not as bad imo). Before SB came, I had no idea whether to switch to RDM or stay as MCH.I tried RDM and loved it, but it was such a commonly used job that it put me off using it. Didn't want to dilute the player pool.

Ever since SB, I've jumped between jobs like crazy and I've never stuck to one. Seeing the upcoming Reaper and Sage jobs throws me into an even deeper spiral of job switching and reconsidering because Reaper is, of course, stunning. The aesthetic ticks all my boxes, but you know full well that everybody and their grandfathers will be levelling and maining it the moment the servers go up.

Sage does still interest me however, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the other jobs get, especially Scholar.

This post has mostly been blabbering about my personal issue with choosing a main to stick with, but I want to know how you do it? How did you choose yours? How do you stick with it? Do you jump around jobs a lot?

I think it depends on what contents you like to do as that will affect each job's gameplay and your enjoyment of it.

I only do queueable contents, so I don't need a main job. I have a main role: DPS, but my most played job is actually the Warrior because of faster queue and (for alliance raid) less competition for gear. But even though it's my most played job, I still consider my main role as DPS since that's the role I'm comfortable playing in any content. I have to be selective of contents to play Warrior. Fortunately, Shadowbringers made it easy to be selective and, thus, Warrior is my most played in Shadowbringers. We'll see about Endwalker.

I don't stick with mine. I mean, it's a game where you can literally have every job available on one character. I'm absolutely going to switch around from time to time and try various jobs. Keeps things interesting.

I learned what I hated to play back in Stormblood. I don't play what I hate anymore.

I don't even have a main job anymore because of Shadowbringers, I just have jobs I prefer in each role. Maybe Endwalker will make me revert this decision depending on the changes.

I've dabbled in every job so I have a feeling for what sticks and what doesn't.

I had always wanted a gunblade job from the moment I started playing this game back in ARR. I mained DRG at the start though because I was a DRG in FF XI for awhile. Plus I liked the job armor. When SAM was implemented I dropped DRG because I just liked the way it played. It's my main alt job now. Shadowbringers gave me my gunblade job at long last, so...that's that. No more switching mains for me ever.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

when i started the game back in HW i thought i should just try out all the classes.... so ein lvled up all the base classes to 15. it took quite some time longer to do these 15 levels back in HW, i lost my motivation eventually when i only had two classes left: pugilist and lancer. Both classes didnt appear too appealing to me. i havent watched any videos, they just seemed of to me. someone with only fists didnt look cool for my old me back then. and Lancer... it just seemed off to me, dont know why xD. but since i'm kinda the perfectionist i HAD to bring these two last classes to 15 and you know what? Monk was ist... when i reached the final boss in the lvl 57 dungeon i fell in love with this job for good. it was awesome.
i missed pretty much all of the SB times due to a break.
After the break i made a new character, monk, it was also the first job to reach lvl 80... but dragoon followed soon and for nearly the last two years i mained dragoon. So the two classes i didnt want to try out at some point became the main jobs
Aside from these jobs schoolar has always been an often used job by me since HW. For the rare occasions to tank casual content my choice was Warrior for some time, but nowadays its dark knight.

I'm a bit hyped for the new jobs since its a melee and a shield healer, the two roles i enjoyed most in this game. People ask me often if i will switch to reaper since it has the same armour as dragoon (which doesnt really matter since we have to get new armour anyway) and i simply say: 'I dont know'. Because we barely know anything about the job. i think its a bit funny to see all these many people already saying they will main reaper only because it looks cool while they dont know anything about how it is to play the job.

I gravitate towards healers/tanks and I’ve always played scholar so that is my usual go to. I know it’s gone through some ups and downs but I just love the aesthetic of sch too much to ever actually abandon it.
