I'm just hoping they don't repeat this same thing again and just keep the moogle tomestones the way they were the past three years. Tying something that normally has a longer duration turn in period to a cut off linked to an event was just... not a great idea.

My opinion on the whole thing is that they got strapped for time and resources by COVID lockdown, had the work put in for this years normal mog-tome event, and in light of having no other promotional thing to go with they decided to appropriate it as an event specific promotion.

I feel for them over at the HQ because COVID hit all of us across the globe, but they should keep the turn in up and just remove the symbol over the moogles head. The logo was the real FFXIV fan fest promotion, not the turn ins.

Eh, I think the idea was fine, and I personally feel that enough information was given. Some people just didn't look at the details like SE assumed they would. Even so, for everyone's sakes, I think if they are to do this again...they should probably include something along the lines of "x tomes will be unavailable to exchange at x day at x time" just to nip this drama in the bud.

An improvement, that is---such is always welcomed, though we can always expect few lots who always somehow manage to out-idiot it. Where's Yoshi-p's /smh emote when we need it...

The itenerant moogle has been around as a "one off" event shop npc longer than the tome events have been.

They used to be brought out during out of game events to sell an earring here or there.

It's probably just used because it's already set up and requires no real manpower to implement. It's location is set, and has been for close to 7 years now? Maybe 8? Long time they've been in game.

Yeah Just the moogle tome events have been established for 3 years before this as a rotating system. Using it this way with a tome currency was just not a great idea to begin with even if it was used differently prior, and I've been around since ARR at this point. I just feel like they are listening a lot less now than they used to. Too many people complaining and nothing being addressed or talked about anymore.

If we're talking about the housing stuff... look even I'm not going to hold Yoshida on that quote for affordable housing. The work that would be needed to get a functioning and affordable housing system in place probably involves untangling a backend problem from the days of yore.

I think that this is not that big of a problem to address. Just give people a grace period of a month or something to get it done, say that all future mog tome events will have a hard cut off date like the current promo event, and then the issue is solved. It's the first time they've done it for this particular kind of thing.

That seems overly conspiratorial – particularly when they already ran "this year's normal mog-tome event" only a few weeks prior to announcing this one.

It's clear that the range of items available was different to what they would pick out for a normal event, with a focus on fan-created content over the usual prizes, like the horses and beast tribe mounts that have been in every single standard event so far, and the festival-specific "Pageantry" tomes instead of the usual pattern of naming them after old tomestone currencies.

If anything, I expect we'll be getting the Irregular Tomestones of Lore event some time prior to 6.0, and if Pageantry was put in the usual cycle of being available after the event, that would push Esoterics out of the shop earlier than its pre-advertised ending time of 6.0 launch.

Except they had to do more work to make this one a special case. Even if they had to borrow the majority of the moogle event code it would have been trivially easy for them to use something other than a moogle and locate it in a different spot. Unless y'all think they're completely hopeless when it comes to writing software.

Making it look like prior events with a behavior that players expect was just begging for a Customer Relations black eye.
