That seems overly conspiratorial – particularly when they already ran "this year's normal mog-tome event" only a few weeks prior to announcing this one.My opinion on the whole thing is that they got strapped for time and resources by COVID lockdown, had the work put in for this years normal mog-tome event, and in light of having no other promotional thing to go with they decided to appropriate it as an event specific promotion.
It's clear that the range of items available was different to what they would pick out for a normal event, with a focus on fan-created content over the usual prizes, like the horses and beast tribe mounts that have been in every single standard event so far, and the festival-specific "Pageantry" tomes instead of the usual pattern of naming them after old tomestone currencies.
If anything, I expect we'll be getting the Irregular Tomestones of Lore event some time prior to 6.0, and if Pageantry was put in the usual cycle of being available after the event, that would push Esoterics out of the shop earlier than its pre-advertised ending time of 6.0 launch.
Except they had to do more work to make this one a special case. Even if they had to borrow the majority of the moogle event code it would have been trivially easy for them to use something other than a moogle and locate it in a different spot. Unless y'all think they're completely hopeless when it comes to writing software. My opinion on the whole thing is that they got strapped for time and resources by COVID lockdown, had the work put in for this years normal mog-tome event, and in light of having no other promotional thing to go with they decided to appropriate it as an event specific promotion.
Making it look like prior events with a behavior that players expect was just begging for a Customer Relations black eye.
There's a thread on the JP forums with basically the same arguments from the English threads going back and forth. I guess we just have to see if they do anything about it.
Just adding my voice to the chorus, for whatever it may be worth: I also assumed, based on previous events, that I'd be able to use my tomes after the event ended, and am stuck with a few hundred across multiple characters. On one character I got the last 20 I needed from a Prae run that finished two minutes before the event expired. If you could still earn them right up until the cut-off with no time to actually spend them before it ended, there should be a period afterward to exchange them.
I read the event page multiple times over the course of the event without noticing the disclaimer. I wasn't aware of it until this evening when I started searching for why the exchange wasn't available. I accept my share of responsibility for failing to see it, but given the number of people (including everyone in the aforementioned Praetorium run) who weren't aware of the cut-off, they clearly could have and should have made it more obvious.
I am not of the opinion that they are under some kind of obligation to reopen the exchange for people who didn't see the warning. I am absolutely of the opinion that doing so is the right thing to do.
No time? You just said yourself you had two minutes. The fact you chose to not use those two minutes is on you.On one character I got the last 20 I needed from a Prae run that finished two minutes before the event expired. If you could still earn them right up until the cut-off with no time to actually spend them before it ended, there should be a period afterward to exchange them.
^ This, it might be a bit asinine to say, but you (Sigild) had a full one hundred and twenty seconds at that point to spend your currency. Two minutes, one hundred and twenty seconds.. that is time. Off course you probably didn't think about it because you (incorrectly) assumed things were what they weren't.
That's not the point. They could have earned it with seconds to spare.
Still, I don't see that as a reason to insist that you must be allowed to spend tokens once the earning period has finished. You've been told in advance that the whole event ends at time X, so it's up to you to look at the time and decide whether you want to sign up to a 45-minute duty with 50 minutes to go or whether you use that time spending the tokens you are already holding. For practical purposes you can decide that the earning period is effectively over because you don't have time to complete the duty.
Another one missing the tometone turn in date. Although my loss is not as severe as others in the thread, I'd also like to have this event reopen only for the sake of exchange.
The notification bar in the event website is in the very middle (even after the notification for "no-undersized party). After assuming everything is supposed to be usual stuff, as an old player I would have naturally jumped to the very bottom to check the reward list, and ignore the bottom (similarly how I did to other seasonal event, or just ignore me if you are the type of players who would read every word carefully for the same event every year).
Just hope the voice is large enough to have my loss covered in the end too! Thank you!
