There is nothing wrong about being exclusive and wanting only to play with the best players you can find. I personally don't do any of the savage or extreme content, but it's 100% understandable why someone would want to be exclusive so they can finish the content faster instead of carrying someone who underperforms, and that is why parsing is important, so you don't waste your time on the player that drags down the entire raid.

I understand the need for it, I am just concerned with the toxicity that gets generated from it :/
    That's not even remotely correct.

The playerbase of this game has a huge problem, they treat WoW like some boogeyman that is the cause of all the game's problems. That's simply not the case. And, in any case, there's nothing toxic about parsing. I recommend forming your own opinions instead of simply adopting the irrational nonsense you get from the people in this game about parsing and WoW.

I am aware, that's why I made a question because I am not entirely sure. But a lot of people I know who were ex-WoW gamers are obsessed with dps meters and foam that they cant have it in FFXIV. It's just a pattern I picked up and wondered if was the case.

I've run into plenty of dancers that didn't realize you're supposed to use standard step every time it comes off cooldown and not just to refresh the buff, and before it was baked into the bard rotation I'm sure there were plenty who didn't know it was better to clip army's paeon 10 seconds early in most cases.

I didn't play this game in ARR, but I'd actually be genuinely surprised if there weren't parsers then too? I mean, the only other MMO I've put serious endgame time into is WoW, and it had DPS meters practically from the beginning as far as I'm aware. Obviously people figure things out and clear stuff without them, nobody's ever said that wasn't possible, and a halfway decent player who takes any time at all to actually try to understand their class will probably do reasonably well. But to push top level damage and get really good... I mean. Fact is, you won't have any solid idea of whether you are really good if you can't quantify it. There's a huge and obvious gap between a bad player and a good one, for sure, but at higher levels of play, when everyone is at least kinda good? It's generally a little less obvious without the numbers, and even harder to gauge your own personal improvement.

Also real good points. You can get pretty far without knowing any of this, but you're still likely to fall behind someone who knows this and knows how to use that knowledge.

Point being, parsers are a tool that makes it easier to figure out how to play your class well. Not one you absolutely Must Have, but one that absolutely does make a difference. The devs design the classes so they have some rotation, sure, but people tend to use whatever tools are available to figure out what that should be, and how it should change from fight to fight.

Exactly, solid players will only want to play with solid players to do raids. When you have someone who out classes the other players, he/she will likely get toxic and leave the group.

A better question for Naaura is why should I go with Casual/Midcore players to do raids? This is an online game and everyone wants something they want to do. Me? I want to do raids but I want to be with quality players like I am right now and they will call out people slacking on their role. I want to work with people on equal grounds, not carry the group DPS. I want to week 1 new Savage raids and kill Ultimates as fast as possible and I can't do it with people not willing to play their jobs the best it can go. Parsing exist to divide the quality level of raiders and keep balance in the raiding groups. Casual, Mid core, Semi-Hardcore, Hardcore. Hardcore groups will kick players who can't follow the groups expectations, I'm sorry no one likes carrying players for raid wins.

I wish it was as simple as that. Then people would know how to play well.
The average player isn't uh, isn't performing as well as they could be if they only had a bit more information.

Guess back then in ARR all our clears were just pure luck, especially when the game came fresh out. Weird.
There were parsers for FFXIV before ARR even existed.

I personally loved when the game explained that I needed to pool Ninki for trick. Oh, and the part about double raiton in trick was neat! Oh, I loved when the game told me that selene/eos had 64% of our scaling. Or when it told Me that DRK's pet scales better in potency than the player.

I even think that they might be just trolling, which I certainly hope not. We already have plenty of those.
