Legacy Chocobo

This thread has been eye opening. I had no idea there was a single human being out there that liked that chocobo. I disliked the gear on it so much when I first got it in 1.0. Can safely say I've never summoned it by choice in all my years playing. What do you guys like about it vs a regular chocobo?

That 1.0 goobie on the other hand. That's my bae.

The Legacy Chocobo was actually never available in 1.0 though - we had to wait til ARR launched (and went into full service, it wasn't even available in Beta phase 4, ala early access) before those with Legacy membership attaintment gained it.

It's also a completely different mount to your Company Chocobo, even the 1.0 Company Chocobo, so exactly where the Legacy one came from, is anyone's guess (but the singed feathers all but scream "it was at Cartenau and barely made it out alive").

As for why to keep it special? Because it was a specific thank you to players sticking with 1.0 right when they needed it the most (as in, paying for subscription when they finally turned 1.0 subscriptions on as so many players abandoned the game at that point). It was part of a bigger package that Legacy status gave - day 1 access to Phase 1 of the ARR Beta Test (I still remember all the vitriol on this very forum about that), permanent reduced subscription fees for ARR (Legacy fee sub tier has all the benefits of the 'standard' fee sub tier but only costs the same as the 'Entry' tier), and, we got our names in the end credits (under 'Meteor Survivors').

The Legacy Chocobo thus is specifically associated with this attainment, and so SE making it available again would go against everything Yoshi has said in the past about the principles he abides by in helming the development of this game. He simply is not going to throw Legacy players under the bus again like that.

I only remember the 1.0 goober was a limited time quest... because I somewhat recall it was a tiny annoyance to do it but I had to or else I'd never have the chance again. Seems like they eventually released another Goooooobs without the weeds on the head that newer players can get. That was a smart way to rehash this stuff so people dont feel left out.

If I had to guess, your 1.0 company chocobo becomes the legacy Chocobo, and you get a new company chocobo later on. Your company chocobo would have been with you on the day, which also explains why you received a new one, and the old one has the features it does. The armor looks kinda melty if you think about it.

That's the thing tho, I'm not opposed to them adding the armor itself as a barding. As long as it doesn't change the wing colors and add the tattoo to the beak.


The armor itself isn't what the legacy Chocobo is. It's the whole of it.

But that's not the request here. The request is for the legacy Chocobo.

I'm of the no crowd. Both the Tattoo and the Chocobo are representative of those that were around in 1.0 and a thank you from the dev team to those who stuck around when there was perfectly justifiable reason not to. You don't get medals/badges of honor for not serving in the military. You don't win the lottery for not playing. You don't get rewards you weren't around for.

I have no real problem with these things being exclusive to the 1.x series. As far as I'm concerned the players who got them more than earned them.

Yes, put all legacy rewards on Mogstation.

I want to see the forum hurt itself in confusion between "you don't have to buy it, there's other mounts available for free" and "but all the money goes back into supporting the game".
