I agree with the above. It would be nice and definitely help those who try to RP on FFXIV. I often miss messages because I don't see if someone said something to me, especially when helping someone on a fate or something..
Definitely would need to be able to toggle on/off. A filtering function could be good too. Do you want to see everyone talking in the big cities and not see anything else? Maybe something if you're just wasting time.. but otherwise just people from your FC or in your friend list might be nice. Or if I target a player when talking, that player would see my speech bubble.
In brief, I think these options would be nice at the very least to be able to select each on/off:
-targetted player
-FC
-friend list
-party (with the option to auto-off in dungeon)
-everyone
I would love chat bubbles!! Coming from other MMOs, especially if someone types something mid combat, I do wanna see it. Sometimes I miss a message, or sometimes I can't tell who's talking if there's a lot of people talking in chat. Having it optional would be great especially if some people don't want it.
Optional for Say, Yell, and Shout chat.
How much do we need to ask for this? It's purely client side. You don't even have to add to the packets. Do you want me to code it for you? I'll code it for you.
think of it as a 2d overlay that derives chat bubble position from character position translated to the client window 2d pane; and scale/falloff by distance from client position to character speaking position.
Easy AF. Just do it already you lazy.
I really hope this gets added. I have a really hard time keeping up with who is talking to who and who is saying what without the speech bubbles. Even if it's just an option of one of the chat types (like /say), it would make the came so much more accessible for me! Everything gets lost in the sea of the chatbox, no matter how I try to organize it. I don't want to run mods, but the social aspect is really kneecapped for me without bubbles TToTT
Also, it would help people find bots/hackers that are hidden underground, and allow for better reporting of them. But that's a distant 2nd place to making the game a little bit more accessible.
Why bother, it has alredy been coded as a plug in, its not perfect but works. How much do we need to ask for this? It's purely client side. You don't even have to add to the packets. Do you want me to code it for you? I'll code it for you.

I intensely dislike the npc picture and speech bubbles in the middle of my screen. I came here hoping to find some way to turn them off, but apparently my search for a way to disable them continues.
