Please just try to let me enjoy and play the game without turning it into drama or anything else unpleasant

    It's just a game!

    JUUUST A GAME!?!?!

Is what reality is going to set in lol. Hopefully he enjoys his time, and neither side makes it a painful experience. If he doesn't like it, or at least some feature of the game, then he doesn't and he shouldn't have to pay the blood sacrifice to say so. (and if he did enjoy something, same the other way round).

If he can power through or skip ARR, I actually think he will like XIV.
Will still have gripes as a guy who has played nothing but WoW for the longest time; so he's used to different systems and design philosophies. But the low level activities and the pacing of ARR is a big hurdle.

That's already got me hungry/hopeful as heck.

In the end, though, I just want to steal the synergy and interaction between art, story, and music, with a producer who seems to thoroughly enjoy being in the center of it and encourages that creativity.

...I just wish the director (also the producer, in this game's case, ofc) was both a little more ambitious and decisive, less willing to accept "good enough" content implementations (Eureka, PotD, etc.) and more willing to push for long-term prototyping and content that won't be short-lived.

Yeah I think he's going to have struggles with the first bit.. ARR isn't bad but I'd almost call it Niche, almost lol (I'd not actually say it if advertising the game to a friend, but I would warn that it's a slow burn and to have no desire to 'catch up' quickly because you just can't-- well without paying for skips). It's just a bit slow, and that slowness goes also to the combat side of things as well which will definitely be one of his problems I'd bet, especially used to playing the end side of an mmo for so long. Even when ARR was 'new' to me I thought ARR was a bit slow to go through; although, the great news being some of that was trimmed up and so generally it's probably much smoother than I last experienced (I don't think it's bad, but it's why on occasion I suggest the new start as an option, maybe particularly once the Zodiark story is brought to a close, as I think they could create a new 'starting' experience, option, that's a bit more mainstream for lack of a better description).

The Nathan Drake, highly tailored, Uncharted start or something, that kicks you out at a higher level so you're then put into faster paced content quicker. Use echo / new game plus to go back when interested (and to get rewards they can leave in those "skipped" quests, like the free fantasia).

ARR spends a lot of time ensuring you can be a new to mmo player, and of course slow burn story, together those elements can turn off certain players. In ARR's defense when I played it they had tuned content to be harder too though (and when you played it lol), so I remember a lot more challenging solo quests than I hear a lot of people dealt with (not super hard, but I remember a few job quests and such where I was like "oh they are actually wacking you!" and then later I read they got nerfed lol). I'm not really against making it more accessible but, for some too tuned accessibility, plus slow pace beginning story, plus slow paced beginning combat (cause low level), can be a painful trio if you're a player ready to play the entire keyboard worth of abilities (not saying accessibility isn't important, just that if it's prolonged and you're not that type of player who wanted it super casual peaceful journey then it's not your ideal situation until you get more of your kit and bigger story set pieces to make that other issue far more in the background).

    So.. tl;dr, indeed .

Our community is just sterile minus a few fun ones to watch highlights of. I’ve played since launch and would rather have a WoW influencer on YouTube in background as I play.

Nothing special really about the community when you’re forced to be sterile by the stoic guidelines.

Imagine hating on one of the biggest one’s like Asmon and think you aren’t the toxic one... That’s basically where we are at. “Your brain is smoother than mine so you’re toxic!”

Be happy anyone that wants to play has a go at it. Casual toxicity is what’s going to kill ffxiv in the end. Just like watching a very very slow car crash.

WoW vs FFXIV is an interesting thing to analyze.

To me WoW has more things about that are good and work beautifully and FFXIV has more things about it that are poor and need work. But that synergy you mentioned is extremely important.

WoW has fewer issues but the issues it has are huge systemic ones that break the experience from the top down making it all feel like a hectic mess. FFXIV has more issues but it strengths tie the experience together into something elegant and greater than the sum of its parts.

The result is I am willing to enjoy the synergy of FFXIV's design and forgive its faults but WoW's faults are too big to ignore.

so since Asmongold is trying FF14 we need to set some ground rules. I recommend limiting world visits for Balmung server for obvious reason. We need to keep this kid friendly and not scare him off.

Maybe he's trying FFXIV because on his alt he secretly likes to erraticallyRP?

I unironically have Asmon in the background at times. Despite his crap chat, he himself has good commentary and often good content. It's enjoyable if one can distance themselves from personal offence. I especially enjoyed his video on Zepla.
If I had to be critical of why XIV community just doesn't have the same streamer types as WoW, it's because of the cultural surrounding the game: We can't criticise other players, we can't really talk aloud without fear of that report button, we treat the game and its community like a glass house. And it reflects in the streaming content or lack thereof. If I remember, a person got banned in game for saying things about a person's low dps on his personal stream. Imagine a store manager barging into your house because you gave the soup on aisle 10 a bad review and then said you are no longer welcome at CraftingForCasuals.

Hmm. I will have to see but Asmon typically is a no bullshit person -- so I would be ready for his critiques as well.
