The MP cost of the spell will be in red if you can't target them with it. That's a far more reliable indicator.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.
This is really really disappointing though. "Just gauging the distance" isn't really helpful.. because there's not really any way to do that.. I rely on the in-game tools to do that and the greying of nameplates is staple for doing so.
As for red text on manacost, I am aware of this but the problem is that when there are 24 people all running around going in and out of range constantly, I don't have time to click on each individual and check their range while health bars are flying up and down and people are dying very quickly.
Lastly, if no one relies on the greying of nameplates, why is it even in the game? Why does it even happen? What's the point of putting that in the game if it doesn't have any purpose other than to confuse people like me who've gotten used to that function from other MMOs? :/
Thanks

It's there to show you who is in targetable range (as in, you can click them) . Aka, if people are lagging behind so you don't pull the atomos mid bosses and have everyone end up with A causing a wipe. Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

With spells having different ranges, a singular identifier to target range doesn't work.
It's just a general idea of when people are close. Nothing more.
And really, in a 24 man alliance, you shouldn't be worrying about people in other parties unless their healers are dead. Each party gets 2 healers.
