'Unable to obtain character data'

Hello,
does anyone encountered this issue today? Since an hour I cannot get into the game wrold (I got logged off after the dungeon), on my character screen I see the information as I posted in the tittle, queue number reaches 3000 people. Client confirms server is up and working. What does it mean? Is it a common issue? How long is it gonna last? What can I do about it?

I just hit the same thing, I attempted to login without the 'Character Data' showing and the queue showed '302' then after approx. 10mins it was down to '257' at that point I gave up.

I have been told by a Guildmate on Mumble, that it is due to a WoW YouTuber trying FFXIV and this in turn has caused a huge rush of WoW players to join FFXIV.

I am not sure if he was trying to wind me up with that, but there is definitely something up on the Server, it is not usually this bad outside of a new expansion

Same here, just went to log in and the server seems busted.

Your guildmate might be talking about Asmongold, he's basically helped rocket FFXIV popularity lately but he joined a week or more back and plays on US servers so doubt he's to blame.

That said, the Gold Saucer was crazy busy today for obvious reasons so not to surprised we have server problems.
