Believe me, there is no greater plot armor than 'she's popular'. Generally only narratives that want to go for shock value will take the most popular cast members... and kill them off. What does being popular have to do with anything? If she doesn’t fit the story and just constantly rehashes the same things, she needs to go. It’s getting real old seeing her “sacrifice” herself only to amount to nothing. She serves no purpose other than those brief feels moment and the occasional light bulb, which can be done by any other character. I really don’t think popularity should play a part in anything as that’s when we get things like Graha.
I'm indifferent to Y'shtola, personally. I'm inclined to think she's popular for the same reasons as Jaina and Sylvanas are popular in WoW - and much like those two characters, I feel she's long since overstayed her welcome even as characters with greater depth and potential have been put on the chopping block.
She mostly gets points from me for looking like an adult and behaving like one - which is probably a low bar, but it makes her stand out from the likes of the twins and G'raha.
I mean, i agree with that statement but that really shouldn’t be how it is. Graha is a good example of that done badly. Keeping a character alive just simply because they’re popular. I’d rather the writers go with what they want rather than cater to a community but that’s just me.

Casting aside the super weird hostility in a few peoples replies.....
I'd also like to have a completely new cast. As much as I like the scions, I feel like it's best to just close this chapter and open up a new one.
The only character I feel like really needs to go is Yshtola, Thrancred looks like he needs a break and Urianger is ready to retire to somewhere nice and quiet. The twins I really feel like should be seperated from us, as much as I love Alphinaud, i'd like him to do his own thing. Alisae I'm less fond of, so personally I hope she doesn't stick around after Endwalker. Graha is very endearing and I feel like we could still explore a bit more but it's not a must. Estinien I wouldnt mind at all sticking longer with us.
One thing I do not want is making use of the other scions. Just....let the WoL be free of Scions shenanigans I'm really tired of it. No "second-class" scions, no characters we've already met. A complete new cast would be awesome, throw in races that we haven't seen as often, Viera, Hrothgar, Roe
The problem though is that WoL basically never speak, so the sidekicks have to be awkward main characters - they don't really do much anyway, except talk a lot.
It's kind of a thing that the bad guys are usually more interesting - the good guys are boring cliches.
I liked Y'shtola until the third death fakeout.
Interestingly that leads me to wonder if they'll ever flesh out the WoL in a way that gives them more meaningful dialogue options. They don't necessarily need a voice actor but having more dialogue choices would be awesome even if it's just flavor text. Maybe that would make the WoL feel much more involved with the group they're traveling with.
They really need to do more with the job quest npcs. Like Dar Knight adventures with Sidrugu and adopted Elezen, or Curious Gorge adapting to steppe life with his Xaela waifu. Alot of good plots they could explore.
