    One main "Only" job; Taboo?

Good afternoon & happy weekend everyone,

Hope all of you are getting by through FFXIV & other general sorts.,

Just to keep this topic simple,

Is it taboo/shunned upon to only just focused on main-ing one job & not bother with the rest?

Does it go against FFXIV player base's standards or is it just public's player base norms?

Basically on my part I love Paladin, as a matter of fact I love my job so much I've worked very hard & long in gearing him up; it was a temporary mind burning but no regrets.

I am fully aware this sets a limit to everyone and myself in which changing jobs its "a must" to give fair opportunity or just being versatile & I completely understand that.

However I am still bothered greatly that I was told "Its necessary to at least have a healer and dps classes, otherwise you'll be put in the boot" and that statement just been running over my head because truly I'm very mono & just focus on one thing & that being Paladin I dearly love most from gameplay to lore & tanking.

Although I did try leveling & experiencing each jobs, I still relapse with two notion of thoughts:

    1) Re-gearing is just mindless and it isn't worth my sanity for the rest of the other jobs; especially since token sorts are weekly gated.

    2) It triggers my OCD with such complexity & will easily burn out.

So again it begs the question......can I still get by with just sticking with Paladin only throughout the game without penalty?

Also, if anyone can relate to this on a similar manner put your thoughts as well!

    Thanks,

Nowadays yes, you don't even have to level another job at all. I have plenty of single job alts, and there's no drawback to being single job anymore.

I main SCH, though I run DNC a bit when needed. Personally I think it's to be encouraged to focus on one or two classes, however it's beneficial to run others to give you some insight on how they work, and how you on yer main should interact with them. As a healer I've found it very helpful to tank, for example (PLD and I'm terrible at it).

The pereceived requirement to focus on multiple classes/Jobs was due to the old cross-class ability system that was scrapped when Stormblood was launched. Up til then you had to level other classes to make use of 'cross-class' abilities, and there were some abilities in particular that were considered especially essential (like the GLA's Provoke for tanks, and the THM's Swiftcast for healers), so this required you to level those classes at least to the level that the last cross class ability available for your 'main' class required (generally it was around level 30-40).

Stormblood changed that, and the cross-class ability system was replaced by the current 'role ability' system, and abilities were automatically learned regardless of class (not surprisingly many abilities were removed from individual classes and given as role abilities, like the aforementioned Provoke and Swiftcast). Thus this also meant players were no longer required to level other classes they may not have had any interest in.

Additionally early on you also needed to level a second class to unlock a Job (like, to unlock PLD as well as getting GLA to level 30 you also had to level CNJ to level 15 before the quest was made available), but again this requirement was eventually removed.

Most people play multiple jobs (and some of us loonies play every job), but if you only want to play one, then it's your account and nobody can tell you otherwise. That said, some raid groups may prefer people who have multiple jobs for flexibility's sake.

I agree with you & I understand how on raids its a requirement, especially with savage & I admire that.

Granted I don’t do raiding & might at least have a secondary job maybe?

Re-gearing with weekly locked tokens are just crazy!

    Thanks for your response!

Anyone who tells you it's necessary to level multiple jobs or roles is wrong. The only time it'll be a "necessity" is if asked by a raid group to give them more flexibility. Leveling multiple jobs will certainly give you more options as well as insight to other jobs, but it's not required.

"Its necessary to at least have a healer and dps classes, otherwise you'll be put in the boot" is a silly statement. No one is going to kick you from a dungeon because you only have one job leveled. Even joining a pre-made in PF, people won't typically expect you to play anything other than what you joined on.

The thought that leveling one of each role will teach you how to interact with other jobs is also flawed because different jobs within each role have their differences. Leveling PLD won't teach you what Living Dead does and how to deal with it if you main a healer. You just need to know what Living Dead does. Similarly, leveling BRD won't teach you that melee jobs have positionals and it helps to try not to spin a boss too much while tanking. You can't be expected to play every single job to learn how they function in-depth, so don't worry about it so much. Especially if you're playing casually, it's not that important. You'll come to learn the important things you need to know as you play regardless

Play what you want to play, it's your hobby. I totally get where you're coming from; I can only realistically deal with a single DoW/DoM job now that the cap's been raised so high. The thought of getting another from 30-50 to 80 is daunting when I'm already spending so much time working on my DoL and DoH.

Just make sure all of your retainers are PLD so you're not required to level a second class/job to be able to max your retainers' levels. Trust me. LOL

See other jobs are opportunities. You may like one job in a role you didn't think you'd like.

Also, trying other classes/jobs helps you understand their abilities and limitations.

Give a chance to each role for team building purpose but in the end it is a game. Play jobs you like.
