It is not uncommon to get invited into parties with 3+ healers out in Bozja, get matched with parties with 4+ healers in DR, and in the active weeks following a new EX trial's release, it can be an actual race to join a PF with a free healer spot... The only place I actively see people avoid healer like the plague is in PvP.
They're often baseless statements, but they sound good for trying to prove a point.

People will play what is the most effective in given content. Bozja is a strange example, because due to the way healers are balanced, and how lost actions function and interact, they are among your highest DPS options with minimal lost action investment. Aetherweaver + Lost Seraph + Burst is an AoE option that is more powerful than Black Mage's single target, outside Delibrum Essence, Chain Spell, and Lost Font. Some of these actions are far easier to get than the others, and one job still has access to a full suite of a healing toolkit, and the other is still among the least able to support the party in the game.

You're not, apparently - they must be in the thought that no one in their right mind would play a healer outside dungeons and raids.

Me: did the entirety of the MSQ, most side quests, Hildy, beast tribe quests, Eureka and Bozja as a WHM

so apparently the only option that doesn't "stress the newbies" is either pressing 1211111111, or do nothing at all.

The word "Healer" is a curious one, rooted in ambiguity.

Honestly though I think its just a total lack of communication between the people designing the jobs and the people designing the content..

You can see this everytine they come out and say we've made healing more important or intensive. And sure it works. For a whole week maybe even 2 before peoes Ilevel covers the extra heals they needed and things go right back to the way they were...

As for ast. I did enjoy it in 4.0 lotsnof fun. But 5.0 I think I've played it twice not even enough to get it to 71. They absolutely murdered everything that made it fun..
In early dungeons like 50s 60s since the scaling is so bad you rarely need to heal at all, aoes are little tickles and Tank busters are like a poke at the HP. And even in 70s and 80s nothing is too threatening to only be healing

Funny how they once both had more dps skills, more complexity in said damage-dealing, and yet often had to spend more of their time healing...

because SE apparently thought we weren't healing enough+job design team are a pair of dps mains who think that healers are there to heal dps players and tanks there to point the boss in the right direction+SE doesn't want jobs to have as much synergy in shb so they crippled utility of all kinds in shb.

Hell, they were so fearful of the backlash, that they skipped over the healer slide in the preview.

consequently, the healer playerbase has plummeted, the skill of healers on average has plummeted, and very few people pick up the jobs to replace them and witht he lack of difficulty or challenge, most new healers aren't learning how to use their kit assuming they stick with it past 10 levels of malefic/broil/glare spam

Healers used to have a more complicated DPS rotation (though admittedly not much), but for Shadowbringers that was removed and replaced with what we have now. It was supposedly done to emphasise a pure healing role, to solve the problem of healers basically being... exactly what the first post of this thread said. Unfortunately it didn't work, so now we just have the same situation, but healers have an even more boring DPS "rotation" than they used to.

I still main and enjoy playing healers, but I would welcome either a) a return to a more complex DPS rotation for healers since we will be expected to do that anyway, or b) a rework that actually achieves what they set out to do in Shadowbringers, giving healers the right kind of utility that means our jobs will involve more than just DPS and OGCD heal in the majority of content. I'm not sure how it should be achieved since I'm not really a game designer and to me it feels like it would be difficult to do without making it an entirely new game, but yeah.

I also would like a return to a meaningful dps rotation--questing is a wretched experience right now spamming 1-button nuke spells endlessly forever. But, let's be real--this is probably THE worst company when it comes to talking to and communicating with their player-base.

Anyone expecting substantial changes for the better are likely kidding themselves. Those making the decisions behind the scenes don't care about what their American audience has to say. They've proven that over the years. I remember back in the midst of the huge healer uproar when 5.0 rolled out these devs were being quoted as actually saying people were happy with the changes and there were no concerns.

correction: non japanese playerbase. not all of us here are american.
even then, I'm not convinced they listen to their japan playerbase much as they've been complaining about healers as well

It's kinda lame that as a healer I can mainly support my teams HP needs and little else.
